Marco Benevento To Play Three Select West Coast Dates In May

Marco Benevento
"Benevento is something of an iconoclast on the piano. He knows his Monk and his Basie, but he prefers to play like a rock star, bashing power chords into the ivories and hooking up with others who straddle the rock-jazz line. Is it jazz? Is it rock? Hard to say, but it hardly matters." -The Boston Globe

Marco Benevento will play three select West Coast shows in May to support his critically-acclaimed debut studio album, Invisible Baby, on HYENA Records. He'll be leading his trio which includes Reed Mathis on bass and Matt Chamberlain on drums, both of whom are featured on the new recording. The three night West Coast run comes on the heels of a string of trio performances around New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.

The upcoming dates are:
04.28 | House Of Blues | New Orleans, LA (WWOZ Piano Night Benefit)
05.02 | One Eyed Jack's | New Orleans, LA (Invisible Baby Release Party)
05.04 | Blue Nile | New Orleans, LA ("HYENA Records Presents" Night)
05.06 | Yoshi's | San Francisco, CA
05.07 | The Triple Door | Seattle WA
05.10 | The Boulder Theater | Boulder, CO

Additional Marco Benevento trio shows are shaping up for the summer, including performances on June 24 at The JVC Jazz Festival and August 11 at The Newport Jazz Festival with special guest Chris Potter.

Wow, Marco with Chris Potter would be awesome. I was blown away a few years ago after seeing Potter play with Mike Stern and Richard Bona on bass @ 55 Bar in NY, the guys got a voice on his sax.

It will be wonderful to see Marco again on the West Coast. I just wish it had been another 3-nighter at Yoshi's Oakland than a single one at the newer, bigger and more expensive Yoshi's SF. The last 3 night run at Yoshi's Oakland was epic!

Still looking forward to the show in a big way..

BGsteve, Russo is sick - right on. But when he plays with people like say Andrew Barr! well, there's no loss.

Andrew Barr is flippin' zen master on the skins.
