Surprise Me Mr. Davis April Run

Surprise Me Mr. Davis April Run :: 04/17 - 04/22

Surprise Me Mr. Davis
Surprise Me Mr. Davis, the union of The Slip and Nathan Moore, is about to set out on a five show run starting next week (4/17).

Surprise Me Mr. Davis grew out of a collaboration inspired by chance. Longtime friend, co-conspirator and sometime merch-man Nathan Moore got trapped by a blizzard in Boston in 2002 so the quartet decided to record on their laptops. Those sessions became their debut album. They followed it up with an EP in 2005 and manage to fit in shows and tours in between other projects. Often compared to the historic pairing between Bob Dylan and The Band the four musicians create a delectable alchemy unlike any other.

How can anyone compare Dylan and The Band to these guys? That's just silly....I'm sure they're decent and all, but c'mon now.

I agree. The band is one of the best musical groups of all time. Not saying these guys aren't good. I really don't know. I haven't heard, but seriously, The Band!?! Levon Helm and Robby Robertson are two of the best musicians of all time. And Rick Danko was a character all in his own. But maybe in time. But probably not.

Can't wait to see them at High Sierra.

Plus I'll get a set by The Slip as well as Nathan by himself.

Go see them if you get the chance.

You will not be disappointed.

I don't think it's a comparison in the sense that they are as good as Dylan and the band but rather that The Slip are their own thing, Nathan Moore is his own man but when they come together it is unique and a merging of two different creative flows. Though to be fair to Surprise Me they have unique material that they pretty much only do as Surprise Me.

I am totally psyched for the west coast shows! Bring it on!!!

I also think its pretty ridiculous to compare this to the collaboration between bob dylan and the band. They're trying to make it seem like this is a historic collaboration on the same level but its really not.

Hit click on Percy's Jukebox and tell me that Nathan Moore does not have a spirit that is rarely seen today in music.

I caught his show last week at a small cafe in Montpelier Vermont, the guy paints pictures and really gets it, don't miss his collaborations with The Slip!!

So stoked, they added a SoCal date (well, L.A. in addition to SB Soho) for TUE 7/8 at Spaceland in Silverlake!

Thank you guys for making it to L.A. this time out west, I am so grateful! Can't wait to see and hear their great music again!
