THE NUMBER OF THE BEAST IS 2008
AS MAIDEN MARCHES ON

Iron Maiden's "Somewhere Back In Time World Tour" has already been a massive success around the globe, selling out stadiums in Mexico City, Argentina, Colombia, Chile and Sydney and Melbourne, Australia. From onstage last Friday, March 14th, at a packed Izod Center in New Jersey, Iron Maiden vocalist and jet pilot Bruce Dickinson announced the second and final U.S. leg of their eagerly anticipated tour. Tickets for Iron Maiden's current dates at the Los Angeles Forum and New Jersey's Izod Centre sold out months in advance, so the band are delighted to announce they are coming back for more major USA concerts this summer.

This tour revisits the band's history by focusing almost entirely on their classic '80s period in both choice of songs played and the stage set, which is based around the legendary Egyptian Production from the "Powerslave Tour" as portrayed on the Live After Death DVD. This will arguably be the most elaborate and spectacular show the band has ever presented.

.. . . .. .what????. . . . . . i wasn't even aware that they were still around. . . . perhaps this is their big "return to prominence" like KISS did a while back. . . . .. oh well at least they'll be out of the spotlight again soon. .. . . .

Back in late 1980's these guys shows were pound for pound the best of what was around. When other metal bands "hair" were putting on make-up these guys were devoloping great live shows. Iron Maiden, AC/DC & Metallica paved the way to grunge music. I'll admit if your into them now (still) your cheese factor is high. "Two minutes to midnight" & "Run to the hills" are classics. Admittingly the 1980's was the worst decade of music ever!

You can say 80's music sucked as much as you can say any decade sucked, if you go by what the radio is playing.

Ok ok, sure. 80's metal sucked. mostly. Maiden however is intelligent, musically talented, and still kick ass. Despite the props and puppets. lay off clique kids.

What a predictable response to brief news about a band that doesn't fit into the standard box of "traditional" Jambase bands! "Oooo, they suck!" This is at least no better than the response we might expect to an announcement about Phish carried on a new site focused on metal -- but should not Jambase readers do better than that? Improvisational music and musicians thrive on inspiration from all kinds of music. Indeed, but for the mash-up of musical cultures usually perceived as most heretical by the self-proclaimed purists, the "jam band" scene could scarcely have come into existence. And hey, whether we like Maiden or not, we ought to have the maturity to recognize the band's undoubted achievements -- like the Dead, they didn't last this long to still be selling out stadiums by "sucking"!

Iron Maiden rules your face! They are one of the most talented metal bands to ever make it. Before we were seeing Dead and Phish, many were seeing Maiden. What is up with all these losers commenting on stuff they have no clue about? Show some respect!

What does that mean "graduate from bands like Maiden"? Obviously you know little to nothing about music. What other bands have we graduated from? Grateful Dead To Phish? ZZtop TO The North Mississippi Allstars? I guess one day all those classical music freaks will graduate from going to see yet another orchestra play yet another tired Mozart composition. I hope you were being facetious Smittea. To quote the great Les Claypool "but the stench of all that pretense,I cannot muddle through". Oh damn, have we graduated from Les?

Trey used to frequently wear an Iron Maiden T-shirt. I also remember him playing Run to the Hills when he was guest DJing on the Bunny Radio Station during the "IT" Festival.

While I agree that jambase seems like an odd forum to promote bands like Iron Maiden, I would never have heard about this upcoming tour. Iron Maiden was my very concert. It is hard to believe that was back in 1988. As years went by my musical tastes changed.....allot. Actually, it was only a year later that I sw my first dead show. Talk about opposie ends of the spectrum!!! Unfortunately I was too young to experience The Grateful Dead in their prime. I was not too young to enjoy the best of Phish, however, seeing them from '94 until the end (60+) shows in between. I dont remember half of them, but I'll always remember my first concert. Maiden will always hold a special place in my heart, as the band that introduced me to the pure joy and excitement of a live show. I can listen to the dead, phish, cheese, ect. and immedatley follow up with some live Maiden. My ipod positions Iron MAiden next to Israel Vibrations!!! The 80's were pretty cheesey on many levels, but Iron Maiden will always be cool. I'll be at the Tweet show.

Peoples musical tastes change over time. Like mine starting in 1983 from The Who to AC/DC to Van Halen to Iron Maiden to WASP to Metallica to Stone Temple Pilots to Pearl Jam to Bob Marley to Jimmy Buffett to Led Zepplin to Alice in Chains to Blues Traveler to Everclear to Sublime to Allman Brothers to Dave Matthews Band to Grateful Dead to Jack Johnson to Jerry Garcia Band to Trey Anastasio Band to Animal Liberation Orchestra. There's to much good music in the world today to pigeon-hole yourself into just one type. The memories of these shows will put a smile on my face for the rest of my life.

I saw Iron Maiden in 1983 with Judas Priest, it was one of my first concerts and it was amazing. I would love to see Maiden down in South Florida, BUT there is no show for us. However, unfortunately Jambase covering this stuff is what Jambase has become all about...no rhyme, no reason, no connection between these bands. It is no longer about Jambands or the Jamband philosophy, they will cover anything that they feel is worthy of a mention. HOW MUCH LONGER TO WE HAVE TO WAIT FOR SOMEONE TO CREATE A SITE THAT COVERS JUST JAMBANDS AGAIN. I respect that this is the direction Jambase has gone in, but what happened to the original philosophy this site had? This is not the evolution of the site, it's a departure fom what got you your audience....jambands!

It's all "WAH!WAAH!" You sniveling, whining little panty wastes! I'm so sick of the crying that goes on around here. There is nothing wrong with Jambase doing whatever the hell they want. You don't like it, don't comment or go somewhere else. Its like people complaining about whats on the goddamned TV or the radio! You dont like it? TURN IT OFF!! I'm comeing here less and less, but not because of content. Because who wants to listen to a buch of cry babies bitch about what they dont like!

Oh, and MAIDEN KICKS ASS!!

To borrow a Bon Scott line, Iron Maiden is "high voltage rock n roll". Most of this jamband crowd doesn't get that because they are idiots. Too much nitrous, too much herb, too much acid, too many pills, too much of everything that they think isn't enough because Bob Weir said so. You are more of a cliche then any Maiden fan could ever be. May you all die at the hands of an iron maiden. That being said I have say to Maiden, "No love for the South???" You know, even us good ole boys that "graduated" onto other music still have the metal in them, so bring it further down than Merriweather for godssakes. Up the Irons!!

beansavi -- Wow, you don't understand the concept of graduating from a band. Let me explain it better to you. Currently you listen to Britney. Some day when you mature, you wont.

"What other bands have we graduated from? Grateful Dead To Phish? ZZtop TO The North Mississippi Allstars?"

No junior, those are bands that one typically graduates to. As you presumably listen to these AND Iron Maiden, I'd wager you're either really close to graduating High School or just started College. You'll get there, I'm sure. If not ,.... hey,.... some people get stuck in life.

"Oh damn, have we graduated from Les?"

No, but I would wager many of us have graduated from Primus.... as has Les! Dwad.

In '88 2 of the best shows I saw were Maiden and the Dead. After many years of not listening to Maiden I bought "The Early Years" dvd 2 years ago and it KICKED MY ASS!!! Appendages had to be re-attached. Why oh why did I graduate from this band in the 1st place? Those were wasted years. Do they "jam"? Unsure, but they got more talent and energy than most bands out there. Up the irons!

I will be there at Madison Square Garden. Iron Maiden rules. Steve Harris is a monster and there stage set-up is gonna be unreal! I have floors seats and I might just sh*t myself. And i also don't think it's a bad thing that jambase covers alot of different kinds of bands. If your not interested in that band then don't read there article. Besides their is only so much news that they can bring you about jambands.

Anyway- UP THE IRONS!!!!
