as any newsource, there are going to be slight variations and little disputed facts here and there, nothing to nitpick. good article, good festival, though it lost the charm of markham park, it is still miami's music festival, holding it down for south florida.

Lately, festivals have, in an effort to "Diversify" themselves, become way too watered doown with these crappy pop, indie, and just downright cheesy acts. We need some festies that are straight up jambands, with none of this garbage sprinkled in. It's bad enough that this site covers this indie and pop garbage, but why do we need them at our festivals?

the irony in all of this kills me. Saw the comments after Jake's New Year's Eve review and it was the same shit. Disco fans making commments like, "you people just don't know good music." What the hell is that supposed to mean, what is "good" ? What is that supposed to mean? That is the single most close minded statement you could make. There are "good" quailites in all kinds of music. To me it appears that you think you are all god knowing. Like you have some inside knowlege about the correct music to be into in order to be saved by god's wrath when we die.

You are like a religious fanatic but for music, are you going to show up at my doorstep on Sat morning with a flyer that says, "if you are not into the biscuts YOU ARE GOING TO HELL!!!!" ??

The fact that you called me a hater, by calling you out for being an asshole, just solidifies the fact that, yes indeed you are an asshole. And trust me, "I know some 'good' assholes!"

Im tired of it all, get a grip dude.

OK, the article might not have been the best written, but give the guy a break. IT has been two days from the festival. Also, the best set of the weekend was Claypool by far. That man brings it every time he gets on stage. Now to the tDB, I am no fan, so I do not really understand what is the love for them, but the way they started their show was AWFUL. Beatles cover and Matisyahu, that was so wack and they really turned me off for the whole show. There were some great moments when they played, like when Murph came out, and other parts were good, but meh. I was disappointed there was nor write up on Railroad Earth's set. They were killin it on Saturday morning. Man those guys are so good and i hope they keep it going.

I don't think an open mind is necessary. I don't care for the Biscuits, but I don't attack them... I think the personal and all encompassing attacks just need to stop. If you feel a band sucks, that is okay, but to attack fans and then get personal is not to take the higher road. I for one don't understand the need to jump over to a board that you know you have nothing to offer just to start a negative thread.

I gotta give Kayceman props for taking the time to write this article. It honestly sounds like you have a biased opinion toward the more "indie scene" bands, and that is ok. Hey everyone deserves their own opinion. Some people on here need to wake up and realize that everyone isn't going to like all the bands you do. If they did, their shows would be crowded as shit, a lot more money, and a much less pleasant experience. So what if he dropped a little crack on Bisco. As a huge fan of tDB myself, I sat and watched the show on sunday night. Sgt. Pepper's was sloppy, and Matisyahu came out and stunk things up, After they started to get into the groove of Spacebird, they show started to get a lot better. Not to mention that Barber was playing sitting, I'm thinking he might have been a little fucked up. Anyway, people shouldn't hate on eachother's opinion, it's a constitutional right.

That was a pretty lackluster review...maybe they will edit/add more details to it after they get their video footage together. I haven't been to Langerado since '06 and I was wondering for those who went: What did you think being in the Everglades? I guess it was better because of the late-night sets being on-site, more of a bigger festie atmosphere...but I really liked the intimacy of the other park...what did you guys think? Was it a move in the right direction for langerado or not?

I skipped Langerado this year mainly because of the fact that they moved it so far away from the city, making it a logistical nightmare for me (and I live in Tampa). Traffic in and out, ability to reload on supplies, and friends flying all were too tough to do.

Now I am reminded of what else I missed - the hordes of Philly/NJ/Maryland peeps that dominate Langerado, along with their nitrous tanks, bunk pharmies, gnashing their teeth at 5 am, telling you that Bisco is the greatest band in the world, and then wanting to brawl if you disagree.

It appears this review was written on a very tired Monday! It downplays the excitement and entertainment that ensued and persevered. Despite the rain Thursday the crowd energy was ideal and peaceful. I talked to Ethan on Friday... he too was happy with the move into Big Cypress. Overall it contributes to the "festival" experience.... the expansion of music including late nights and camping on-site. Small complaint-$10 showers. Langerado has the potential to expand in their new home. Congrats Ethan and Mark!! BTW- There was a large group of 15 of us from the Tampa, St Pete, Sarasota area... under the bamboo In-tent-city.

For me, its honestly getting to the point where I don't think I'll ever even give Bisco a chance, and its all because of the demeanor of their fans. Seriously, my distaste for the band has much less to do with the fact that their music is so frantic.

And its sad, because its really not fair to the band.

Bisco fans are defensive because they know that there band cannot sing at all, plays sloppy and has long boring noodling songs that have boring drawn out jams and intros, and rely on gimmicks like inverting songs and unfinished songs to get them through a boring ass show. Sorry, but you have to be high to like this band and you all that love them know this

Watched the Mule set thru the Bisco show Sunday on The Mule show was GREAT. The Bisco set was rockin', despite what the article implies.

Overall a rather poor review; however, I remember the 10klf and maybe it was Bonnaroo, reviews last summer, were also rather crappy too. I'm starting to notice a pattern.

Maybe since the festivals are so big...have a group of people who can go out and see all the different shows and cover everything, then compile the story so the readers can actually read about shows they were at. If you can't hire people, I'm sure fans would be more than willing to give their imput and help out.

I'd rather see a well constructed review rather than a half-ass one that was pushed out too early mere hours after the festival concluded.

Sorry JamBase.

Greg11, peep Skerik's feet next time you see him. Or you could just pick up a copy of Les Claypool's Purple Onion, or Garage a Trois and here Skerik's effects. And it's xylophone, not xylephone. And Dillon plays both. The main difference? A xylophone is tuned an octave higher and made typically from Keylon or rosewood, while a Marimba is made exclusively from wood WITH wooden resonators.

LTJFreak, we all know Skerik has pedals at his feet, thanks for pointing that out, but you see, dexterity is skill of using hands, and like you said, foot pedals, . . . . now you get it, yes xylOphone, yes, he has one of those too, but you, I and everyone else who has ever seen the man play more than once knows that he plays his vibraphone most of the time and rarely, if ever touches his xylOphone . . . . yes, marimba, tabla, hand-sonic, conga, etc . . . the man plays many instruments, though we both know which one the reviewer was reffering to AND Herbie Mann plays the flute . . . 3 glaring mistakes in one paragraph . . . .

the point is, if you are going to write a review, GET YOUR FUCKING FACTS STRAIGHT OR DON'T WRITE THE REVIEW!!!

For the record, The Disco Biscuits are truly my favorite band in the world (with Radiohead being the only exception), but I have to agree with most others on this board when I say that tDB fans on this board are being ridiculous. I hate reading a less than stellar review of my favorite band, but let's face the facts. When the writer speaks of their not-so-great vocal skills, he is pretty much right on; they need to take vocal lessons, it is just getting to that point in their career where this should have already been done.

However, as a fan, their lack of vocal skills is really something that I don't care much about, as their musicianship is fantastic. These guys blend many different genres of music and make it their own; something that not many other bands are doing or even can do. I can understand where tDB is simply not some people's "thing", whereas to some people it is the only thing. To each his own. But to come on this board and rip up the writer for his take on their set (which they need to stop bringing Matisyahu out, it's simply getting old - I would have been very unhappy with seeing this) and then only commenting on tDB when there was a plethora of other bands written about is ridiculous. And it completely turns other people that may eventually get into tDB off; this does nothing but hurt the band. You don't make any valid arguments or reasons as to why this band really is one of the best bands in the jam scene. Besides being a rock, jazz, trance band they can take a classical piece and turn it into a dance-driven masterpiece. They are well-trained musicians that have created their own niche in the music world. Unfortunately, every band has its rabid fans that cannot take criticism and get defensive.

My apologies for making this post strictly about tDB, but please don't put all of us in the same boat, as this is not the case.

That being said, this is the first Langerado I have missed in three years. Despite the crazy weather, to see R.E.M. would have been a really cool experience (even if it wasn't the most phenomenal set). Beastie's are always a treat, no matter what decade you see them in. Late-night Tribe is the way to see this band - they always do it right. Ani is one of the coolest women in history. And getting a chance to see Thievery Corporation would have been ridiculous. Looked like a great line-up and a fun time had by all. Cheers!

Talk about straying from the music... but.....

dex·ter·i·ty [dek-ster-i-tee]–noun

1. skill or adroitness in using the hands or BODY; agility.

2. mental adroitness or skill; cleverness.

I think both may apply here to describe Skerik's awesome skills and agility...

As far as tDB - hopefully their fans don't show up to 10K this year, they're fun, but you guys seem set on tearing down everyone around you and we don't need that up in the beautiful northwoods of MN... Can't wait for Phil and Friends after watching this show!

I was gettin down more than mario, mega man and kirby combined. Other highlights for the weekend were tDB, Phil Lesh and those all night dance parties in that untz tent. All the people i met had great vibes from the northeast, dirty south, midwest and pac west. I think the only reason people werent gettin down at the biscuits show was because it was like 35 degrees. Here is my problem with the posts on jambase. Sitting here at work, reading many posts I am confused to what the status of the scene is. When did festies turn into waiting for a review, slamming it and claiming a certain band is the best. Who cares, every festie I've gone to I have had a great time, from small backwoods bluegrass to The first three Bonnaroos. I saw bands I wanted to, took in a few new ones, partied and danced my ass off and came home. I could give two squirts what anyone thought, especially a jambase journalist. I understand festivals have been watered down with bullshit pop and teenie-boppers, but you don't have to go. Damn, I've been out of the loop for a while, but the best times of my life took place watching the bands I love and the whole experience, because every time I go it is a unique experience and that is what I thought it was about. I hate bisco and I've been forced to see them by friends, but it seemed to me that their fans were getting down and got it, so who gives a fuck if people want to call them the greatest band around. They obviously are to them and that is what it used to be about. I'm comin out of retirement for All Good this year, so I hope to see all of you that are there to have a good time

I think the bisco kidz are pissed cause a bunch of them went to the show and it was actually a quality bisco show and the reviewer was trying to say it wasn't. It kinda obviously shows that the reviewer just doesn't like the biscuits, so it's kinda weak to read. He should've just said "Saturday night wound down when i sipped a bunch of haterade and went to the disco biscuits. I hate them already so it sucked."

Personally I get tired of Bisco Kidz spouting shit all the time but I am afraid they are right this time.

Here are my top five from the weekend

1) Grace Potter and the Nocturnals - They opened up with 'Getting in Tune' by the Who. At that moment I knew that show was something special

2) The New Deal - they by far, i think, brought the hottest heat that weekend. I saw The New Deal, Bassnectar, Pnuma, STS9 and tDB. The New Deal easily had the crowd groovin the most.

3) Phix - not many ppl were at this, I went after a few songs at STS9. Once I got there they broke into a phish rarity 'Destiny Unbound', Next thing I know I'm there till the end having a blast.

4) Beastie Boys - they laid their party beats well and also played their instrumental stuff really well. ppl were having a blast dancing even when the boys weren't rapping.

5)Railroad Earth - solid bluegrass/folk/storytelling from RRE. Had a early timeslot (1:30pm) and still had a crowd equal to a evening or late-nite show. The bluegrass was a nice way to chill after lots of dance music and rock'n'roll.

Weak ass article. I hate to say it but we need people who actually see the good bands writing these reviews. He didn't mention UM or Phix, to of the highlights of friday. I want to hear everyones thoughts on the best shows of the weekend, because I was there and this article doesn't even fit the description it should/ Stop bitching about the location and the weather problems. who cares. its about the damn music. Bisco kicked ass by the way. sickest M.E.M.P.H.I.S. I have ever heard. Gov't mule was weak. Phil was sick. R.E.M. blew. MSMW jammed the fu$k out. and Claypoopl was killer. How about DSO's set. This fest had a lot of good music and wasn't clearly portrayed at all in this weak article. The weather is what makes fests epic. It didn't ruin my weekend at all. weakest fest review in a while, I hate to be a critc, but I like to read articles that have some truth to them not all opinion.

Otherwise, for those that goes, what was the camping REALLY like. . . . Kayce man didn't appear to have been in the general audience and I am curious for next year. . . .

Wouldn't it be nice if you read past a review to see comments from those in disagreement such as "I disagree. I enjoyed the set by (band name here)." It seems that there are still those here that are capable of intelligent discourse. It is a big statement about the scene, though, that it is being overrun by ignorant people lacking the tact to express their opinions informatively, without attacking what they see as different. I think anyone with half a brain won't confine themself to just one genre of music or one brand of people. I've met some pretty amazing people that lead the bohemian type lifestyle but I would not dismiss credit from someone who lives their life in a structured setting. People, wake up! Intolerance is a tool that will only serve to shape your life into a pitiful lonely existence, ensuring you no light at the end of the tunnel. Before you look to the end of the tunnel, though, you should think about the shit that you are standing in today. It's only getting deeper.

Nobody could have ended the story better than Phil Lesh, what an amazing two two sets!!!! Biscuits definately knew their history, making reference to Big Cypress as the land of REALLY LONG SETS(PH), if only they would have played till sunrise, on the Sunrise Stage, but still amazing time!!!...Thank you Langerado for an amazing weekend, see you next year

I did not see anyone fighting or arguing at the festival, but its a daily here, where everyone can hide behind their posts.

Although mainstream acts are sprinkled in with the jambands, Its probably because they are wanting to sell as many tickets as possible.

It is a business you know :)

I loved the new mastersounds, dj spam, sierra leone, and micky hart band.

many others too!! I saw the beastie boys, and it was an entertaining time, but I would not pay to see them exclusively.

Again, I did not see any one arguing, only having fun.

Thought it was a great festival! Loved the Funky Meters and the Beasties... And the New Mastersounds did it right... Pnuma was new to me and I loved it... one of my favorites... logistically I think the festival could have ran a bit smoother with the water.. after 2am I couldnt buy water and when I asked security guards they would just point me to the exit... The whole weekend I had a claypool baseline stuck in my head... it was great

"... No security plenty of people snuck in, very little bunk drugs..."

What a reason NOT to go to this festival. You are a thief if you sneak in, total BS imho ... Who cares about drugs ? Are you there for the music or to do drugs. I am sorry but it is this mentality that makes me enjoy the likes of Greyfox, Delfest (can't wait for this first one), Bear's Picnic, etc. and the like WAY more that this apparent cluster F.

If you had a great time, fantastic, but to qualify a festival on whether lowlifes can get in for free and the quality of drugs you can score is just sad ...

Went to Langerado & had a terrific time in spite of weather, cow poop, & fire ants (the old "hot foot"). Crowd was friendly and no security hassles other than folks trying to bring alcohol into venue. Musical highlights for me included Theivery Corp., Pnuema, STS, State Radio, Grace Potter, Beasties,Spam Allstars, & many others. Saw plenty of acts I'd never seen and blown away by quite a few. The only true downer for me was REM. They played a set that to me was like a Vegas lounge act. If only there had been another act to see while they were playing. Oh well, this led to an imprompto disco-dance party in the JamCruise tent that was hilarious. Tried the Biscuits again but just can't get into them. Maybe a generational thing, (I'm 41 and their crowd 20ish) but they seem to have the touchiest rabid fans. Love what you love just don't hate. Enough of that in our regular lives. Peace.

i like the biscuits and i agree with the article.... some people get the biscuits and some don't, but those who get it REALLY get it.... we watched phil and chatted on iclips chat room for our cyberfest... ah so nice... i am here for the music so it sure beat expensive travel arrangements, tickets, $10 showers, lines , etc... and i did not need to take off work... NOBODY cares who likes who more than whom.... they are all opinions... all based on perceptions and perspectives as are all but the universal truths... you could argue forever and never have a "winner" since is subjective... the article though did seem like it could have been written BEFORE the actual concert though..... very shallow with just the mention of certain bands and how great they were....yawn... i've seen several dozen bisco shows and that wasnt their best one by far.... listen to tweeter center with horns 1st set and come back and tell me they suck lol...yeah ok... now i know i shoudlnt even be discussing music with you

OK...Langerado was amazing!!! I was there Thurs-Sun and had fun fun fun! I met someone selling digiridoos(sp?), he let me try one...I guess I was pretty good and he just gave it to me - that sums up the REAL vibe of the festival(nothing like this board)! Now...nobody has mentioned The Roots! They played a 20min cover of Master of War by Bob Dylan which was my surprising highlight of the weekend - they played it in a Floydish manner and in between each verse, jammed a piece of a different classic rock song - the best was when they went into a Band of Gypsies Blues jam where the guitar player and Tuba player lept into the crowd mid jam and just whaled!!! Campsite scene was tons of fun - 5am funkers dancing through the sites..had to join them with my new digiridoo...and if you were in that jam - remember the MILK BOTTLE IN THE MUD...there's a MILK BOTTLE IN THE MUD! Langerado rules - you are all blessed individuals, and love will find us all:)))

Music was absolutely icredible. The scene was nice in area's. The debauchery was sad. Seeing kids seize out in front of the gate. People looking like complete zombies. Kids on way to much of everything was scary. I apprciated the fact the police were cool all weekend long, but it seems a little off kilter having a conversation with someone who stated Deamster with Crack is the new thing?!?! That is retarded, no matter what fancy quasi hippie term one might use. If we dont want police involvement in festivals, some sort of internal policing is necessary. Take it easy on the phamies, banging dope is plain stupid, taking crazy amount of halucinogens in that setting, is plain wrong. I dont want to condemn others way's of life, please everyone be careful. Peace Sean

FWIW, my top three from Langerado:

1. Built to Spill - The rockingest set of the weekend.

2. Ben Folds - That man is a genius. So fun to watch. Makes me want to laugh and cry and sing and then laugh again!

3. The Disco Biscuits - Truly was one of my favorite biscuits shows in a long time. They were all obviously having a blast and the energy was through the roof. To each his own, though people. Not everyone gets it.

Most Pleasant Surprise: The Wood Brothers - I have not seen this act before and it's brilliant!

WOW, where is the love that our music and lifestyle promotes. I had an amazing time and i haven't had any drugs or alchohol in almost 3 years. I've been to all 6 langerado festivals, the 1st 3 i was on every drug under the sun and the last 3 on redbulls and cigs. i was a little concerned about it being in big cypruss, i was at phish 2000, 12hrs there and 14hrs home and i live in miami, need i say more. i can't think of another festival that's grown as fast as langerado. I do agree w/ the writer, in my older age, i prefer the markham park setting, that being said there's something really sweet about being in the middle of the everglades listening to some amazing music. I was soooo tired by sunday, but i was on the rail for funky meters, govt. mule, and phil & friends and the vibe and music blew my mind!!! what a dead show, now that's a set list, sugar mags opener, unbroken chain, and help>slip>franklins in-fing-credible. I've seen 1000's of shows and sunday langerado is right up there. Quick opinions: biscuits-overrated, new orleans funk-underrated, best food-gyro, worst food-hamburger, cops-pretty cool, security(wannabe cops)-pricks, crowd-awesome!!! See u all at jazz fest. OK... Let's get the record straight! Phil started the second set with CHINA CAT... I saw the whole set from on stage and was looking at the set list as they played it. Moving on... The New Deal did in fact rage it, as did Umphrey's McGee. MSMW probably was the greatest set of music at the festival. Now... Thievery Corporation, I would love to see them throw down a late night sometime and a little coverage on jambase couldn't hurt their cause either. A Shout out to all the VIP's, Artists, Staff & Guests that partied with my brothers & I. The twice daily buffett kept me on point all weekend and I probably drank my weight in $2 beers. Story time: As I smoked with some kid in front of Les on Thursday night I was approached and asked if I had a clean syringe (WTF!!!), I got a chance to watch some gator wrestling in the middle of the festie grounds (good times), saw a high speed run away golf cart police chase near the swamp stage (oddly enough) & made some great friends! All in all - fantastic, excellent, indeed it was supurb. Certainly worth the trip from Cali. There you have it.

After reading this article and all the comments left on this post I have to say, #1 I wasn't there, #2 Disco Biscuits rock, but the fans on this board need a chill pill, #3 This was one of the poorest written articles/reviews I've ever read.

I for one LOVE to read reviews of shows that I could not make it to. A good review makes you feel like you were there and walks you through one person's festival/show experience. It seems to me that this author did not go into this weekend with an open/unbiased mindset. If you think I shouldn't comment on quality of writing, I think my review of the Led Zeppelin show on this site is a good review, take a look there to get my idea of what a good review should read like.

Thanks for article. Appreciate it. Its extremely difficult to mention all the bands. I mean the man would be writing for days, I'm sure he digged alot more shows. 5 stages to a bit tough to make rounds. Thats what these comments are really give input on personal experiences and speak about what bands got you grooving. Some of you peeps got it right and it sounds like you had a blast. You just gotta be in the right state of mind to let it all go and get down. Rest of you no need to hate on whatever band. Thats why there was 5 stages...for you to throw down where it felt right for you. Either way, good times, burn one down, and cant wait to get some of those bangers on record.

Yeah the guys in STS9 use lap tops, multiple members of the band spend hours creating samples at home so the can go to a show and quickly click something to start a sequence. This does take actually take a lot of effort. Multiple members of STS9 also have MIDI keyboards, the laptop is so they can quickly change the voice that the MIDI keyboard produce. A very minimal amount of time is spent on the laptop during their shows. In the picture above, it also looks like Murph is getting down on his mini synthesizer. He uses that to lay down those nasty fat electro bass lines. I really don't see why people have to rag on this new electronic style. Music changes, and technology influences that. To me seeing computers on stage isn't necessarily a bad thing. I guess your little smart ass comment, turned out to be a little dumb ass one. And you sure are right, those guys can play one hell of a show.

I had a whole lotta fun VJing there ... thanks to all the you who helped turn that tent out!!!

Just thought i would add some other stuff we seen from the other side of the stage ...

I stayed on a tour bus but my crew decided to grab a sweet spot by the water in staff camping ... after pitching tents and cracking open a well deserved brew (21 hour drive) ... we discovered a 5-6 foot human size gator about 15 feet from the tents/camp site just kinda swimmin' back and forth. We named him Max (Webster) and it hung out all day and night ... the reflective eyes in the flashlight beam was a freak. We seen many wild gators, mostly little guys, hanging out near busy traffic places. Something a littel scary and cool as all hell for 3 guys from Buffalo, NY. :)

The crew worked their ass off. For real. It was hot, cold, dry (dust) and wet in the same day. The red ants at one point got into everythign, including cameras etc ...

Hats off to the Langerado crew.

this was a decent article, as it was damn near impossible to see everything. but there should have been mention of the COW SHIT that was ALL OVER the campgrounds. the festival deserves a bit of bad press for that...although some lucky kids found some homegrown shrooms in those cow patties...the rest of us just stepped in shit.

and as for the comment "Florida has never been a hot bed of musical inspiration" .... FUCK YOU. allman bros (yes, they are from florida, NOT originally from georgia) skynrd, tom petty, and derek trucks are just the tip of the iceberg. not to mention the plethora of small florida bands currently playing. there are a lot of things about florida i dont like (like republicans and old people), but lack of music isnt one of them. so if you are gonna rag on a state that just hosted one of the biggest festivals of the summer, please find a valid reason in doing so.

Everyone, seriously, chill out. You can't all act like this the entire festival season can you? As a diehard UM fan, I haven't heard the set yet, but the setlist looks f'in unbelievable (Gotta love Bridgeless!!!). Anyhoo, there's way too much sensitivity going on for all y'all. How serious do you act during a festival!?!? I love all y'all, so keep on lovin' the bands you love....P.S.... ON A SERIOUS NOTE, HOW CAN YOU HATE ON NEW ERA FLAT BRIMS? THEY ARE SLICK AS HELL. ESPECIALLY FOR DETROIT TIGERS FANS... WORLD SERIES 'O8 BABY!

Umphreys set fucking rocked. best show of the weekend IMO. Tribe show was okay from what i saw, but they ended early and took a set break and the sound was aweful. They needed to turn up that stage the entire weekend. UM is flat out on fire right now, I wish i was at the JITD. New ERA hats... not my cup of tea, but to each their own. (I think im just jealous that I have to big of a head and cant get a size that will fit it)

Just wanted to add ... UM musta done a rain dance cuz all radar pointed at the sky exploding at midnight-1AM as they took the stage.

The warnings were everywhere ... the wind was lifting the green room tent, right next to where they walk on/off. The media tent, about 100 yards away literally had to be taken down cuz the wind ... they came, they saw, they STAYED DRY AND ROCKED IT!!! :)

The ominous setting made for a great set ...

The sky waited an extra 2.5 hours to explode, they were able to finish what was indeed an awesome set.

This is article is one person's opinion. One over-worked music lover who busted his ass to give all of us coverage of the fest, and had to sacrifice bands he wanted to see in order to tell you what he thought of bands he wasn't even that into. Have any of you ever done that? Gone to a fest and not seen the band you love because you were working, for thousands of rabid readers who are just waiting to tear you apart because your music taste is different than theirs? If you love your band so much, and are completely convinced of their talent and greatness, then it shouldn't fucking matter what anyone else thinks. If one person doesn't like it, great, thats more ticket availability for you. If you can't open your mind to different opinions or new styles of music, then I kind of feel sorry for you. You're living with narrow minded and mean spirited blinders on, and in my experience, that gets you nowhere.

Kayceman's a great writer...always enjoy his stuff. This is a fine example of why reading the JamBase comments section often makes me sick to my stomach. WTF people? Who are you? Scares me to think I live among you. Let me guess, you throw your ciggy butts in the street and don't pick up after your dog when you walk it. The disintegration of society begins in small increments. Here we go...

A little surprised about not mentioning Umphrey's epic late night set. Also, Thievery's set was the best main stage set of the weekend. They are unbelievable! Btw, the place to be all weekend was the Chickiehut Stage. Ghostland Observatory, Of Montreal, and New Mastersounds killed it. Amazing weekend overall!

OK, so he said that the music wound down with The Disco Biscuits.

Wasn't it a late night show? Was there any other music after it? They were the last band that night, correct? Of course the MUSICAL DAY wound down to the LAST BAND that played that night. It's a literary term, something which Bisco fans on here seem to know little about. He didn't trash your band, he was trying that they were the last band on stage that day.

It's called reading comprehension.

Wow what a great time Langerado was! Rain, wind, cold, sun. Any outdoor festival is subject to the weather, and for most of the performances it was fine. I think many of the comments are missing the fact that if swamp stage was not your cup of meat, the sunset stage was. Actually with five stages my one gripe would have to be being forced to comprimise. But I will not gripe cause ya just can't have it all. I do agree that REM seemed to lack the boiler about to burst playing by even the most obscure bands. Be prepared with andro and whatever tools you learned will be cool to have and next year. and have a ball once more! "This is the final frontier"

My top three from the weekend:

1.) Biscuits - Matis was weak but the rest of the set was NUTS. Twas one of the weakest helicopters ever...

2.) MSMW - these guys know what is up and did the Langerado crowd just what it needed.

3.) STS9 - theres something to be said for just having seen Bassnectar, then getting latenight Tribe during the beginning of one of the craziest festival thunderstorms ever. Lightning flashing while tribe is playing and your mind is floating around in the sky somewhere? Priceless.

Surprise (not really) of the weekend: Grace Potter and the Nocturnals.

Grace is just such a sexy woman and she really has that joy of creating music for people. The picture of all of them drumming on the one kit made me so happy.

Funny story: Well there are a lot of them but at the Biscuits show, we passed out about 10 joints to the cool folks around us and all cheefed down at the same time. Every time the lights flashed our way there was just a massive cloud of smoke. Someone even managed to get a picture. Good times.

Wow, you know...that was really considerate of Matisyahu to display a 20 ft. banner of his name on the back of the stage. I guess he didn't want people to mix him up with the other Hasidic reggae singer/beatboxer playing at Langerado. Shameless self-promoter.

To all the Bisco fane, pleae take your Kayceman with a small grain of salt-he of avid Panic fandom for what seems like decades now (not that there's anything wrong with WP), a slight dis of the Biscuits is just de rigeur. For my 4th straight L'do, this was what it was-bigger, badder, crazier...simply more, more, more. I can vivildy recall the first Bonnaroo articles, with 5-6 authors, all reporting back on thier own agenda's-this article needed at least 3 co-conspiritors to really capture the whole shindig. So we'll never see a detailed DSO, Phix or Umph etc. ad nauseaum review-pity. The truth is, L'do is punching it out in the BIG leagues now and the jury is still out..can they top it next year, was it undersold in spite of a wide diversity of talent, did they make bank or lose thier shirts. 70K for TN vs 20K's a long drive to the middle of nowhere-do the math per band, the talent didn't draw all that many festie-goers out. Nonetheless, I'll take away many blissed out memories and had a really much better than even imaginable time given the potential weather debacle, and I'll leave with my one favorite non-music memory--during an alligator wrestling demonstration, a lone voice from PETA crying out "stop it jerk wad, alligators have feelings too you know!"

Markham Park was sweet, but Big Cypress has the potential to become a magical place like Bonnaroo--a place that creates a unique community for a few days that takes you light-years away from the daily grind. I think more activities, art installments, etc. would be great to see (something I've always thought was slightly lacking at Lango). While LEBO is an inspiring artist, I don't think his large plywood pyramids they've used year after year quite did it for me.

Also, while !!! was rad, they definitely created some awkward tension with some of Nic Offer's cheap-shot jokes. I think he managed to take a festival crowd that was just getting into their show and almost completely alienate them from the show. "If I'd known it was going to be this kind of festival I wouldn't have cut my hair" in a snide side-remark isn't going to win you any new fans, Nic.

Finally, as a die hard Bisco fan, I'm ashamed of all the negative and blatantly derogatory and offensive comments from other Bisco fans on this board. Chill out and grow up. I think this reviewer got it right.

...and having said that this reviewer gave the Bisco show an average but fair review, I definitely had the most fun at the Biscuits of any show at the festival. That's not necessarily to say that they played better than any other bands, it was just so much fucking fun! Get over it--they bring the heat like no one else can, but we all know they can't sing and they flub songs all the time.

I too am a diehard UM fan, I sell new era hats for a living (very slick indeed), and wow did I get some laughs from these comments. I'm starting to wonder if I'm one of the only people that will listen to just about anything with an open mind. It's great to see that I'm not....... oh yeah, GO TIGERS!!! (and pistons)

Langerado was amazing. The music was awesome, the vibe was pure, and the location was cool. Here's my favorite sets of the weekend:

1) Disco Biscuits - i must admit, despite the inane douchebaggery of their fans on here, that Bisco laid it down fierce. They're not my favorite band, by any means, but there set had a romping positive energy that really did it for me.

2) MSMW - pure class. Scofield played with such provocative style, on top of the already chedda groove that MMW were oozing all over the crowd. I could eat a fine meal or contact the spirit world to music like that, its all there.

3) Umphrey's McGee - Of course, the boys of UM brought the shredding insanity. As a musician the technicality of their playing continually inspires and floors me.

4) Beastie Boys - they got nasty like diaper rash. Their instrumentals were just straight layers of funk, and they kept the crowd guessing, going from punk to hip hop to funk/jam ad back again. The beasties have done so much for music and white people in general, and it was great to see them bringing it hard despite their share of the grey hairs.

I'm going to leave it at 4 for my list. I walked up to Phix right when they started playing Divided Sky, my fav Phish tune, and they played it well. That was fucking great.

All the great music and people made for one hell yeah fuck yeah weekend.

Now i must say, anyone on here who bitches about this article or the opinions of others by saying that they don't know good music and they don't know anything about the "scene" because thy don't ride bisco's nuts, you sound fucking retarded. Disco biscuits are a great band, very musically talented, but they are far from the level where being their fan makes you some kind of music aficionado. The bisco fans who responded to this article negatively are obviously very immature mush for brains little kids, and they definitely give their band a bad rap. If you really like the disco biscuits, stop acting like fucking idiots and giving non-fans the impression that their shows are silly headier-than-thou douchebag carnivals.

Phish0, I think it is impossible to keep pharmies out of the festival scene. They have been around for awhile now. And West Virginia is the oxy contin capital of the nation. Probably see some locals selling meth too. I agree that the nasty drugs need to get off the lot but it aint gonna happen anytime soon. I saw more pharmies being sold at phish festivals than any biscuits show. Bisco rocks...end story.

I agree that it is impossible to keep it out, but if enough people display their distaste for it and let them know that we do not want it there then maybe they will realize that most people do not want them at fests. I have to believe that most people view those guys as some of the biggest weak minded, pieces of shit in the world. I am sick to death of going to fests and seeing people OD and sometimes even die. Music is the point and not drugs!!!!!!! Most people read into lyrics and think that their favorite bands are condoning their behavior when the opposite is true. I am sick to death of hearing people talk about changing the world for the better and then banging meth and popping pill after pill. Great minds are wasted at our most sacred of places. It is a shame. This has nothing to do with Bisco and everything to do with people. Not only people that listen to Bisco, but "hippies" who listen to every band. Stop blaming Bisco guys and starting holding the PEOPLE accountable for their actions!!!!!!!!

Gotta tell you as a south floridian Ill sacrifice your intangible boutique feel for.... not having to get into my car after a festival and drive 20 miles up or down 95 pay a whole seperate ticket for a night show that will sell out then drive back to my hotel then back to the festie the next day. then wake up and repeat. Even if you got a sober driver lets face it you prob got something in the car. I agree, this article was very downbeat and I always though kaceyman was one of the best reviewers/writers at jambase. really again boutique feel or safety and conveneience at the site of phish's pinnacle (which I also was present for) Your literally retarded

weird how last year every review about langerando was positive because even though the overlapping of the bands was stupid, it was a well run festy.... the mixing of heads and mainstream in downtown ft lauderdale was sweeter than cow poop, fire ants, looses gators, no water after a certain time , no shelter from storms, overpriced rv rentals, mud, etc etc

I cant belive the article doesnt mention UMPH. They are clearly the best touring rock act of the time! You cant touch their progressive full-force approach. its almost a JOKE, how good they are. Throwing in random extra 4 bars here and there just to build into peaks which you think are just amazing but that only triggers more changes and more insanity. no doubt, this is the hottest thing on the scene. they put their stamp of BAD_ASS-ness on evertything they touch.

Now here is what i got to see at Langerado 2007. By myself (rented a minivan and planned this whole little 3 day adventure before seeing my folks), Flew into, then drove to cozy markan park from gainsville (i wasnt the only one who saw moe. at Freebird then made the 6 hour drive south hehe) because the lineup was so good. I dont like going to shows, let alone fests, solo, but just check out this lineup. It was worth circling florida and sleeping in the car for a few days!

Sharon Jones

Bela Fleck

I got to see all that in one day, are you kidding me? i musta been dreaming. Wonderful day of music, and a cute festival. Though i didnt go this year (wasnt really interested honestly), i can imagine it lost all the intimacy and below-the-spring-break-radar of Langerado's past.

Fests have become bigger and bigger businesses. I will never understand the "VIP" treatment, helicoptor fly-ins, luxury log cabins etc...

if moe.down, which is my absolute favorite 3 days of the year, ever starts doing vip treatment, or outgrows snow ridge mountain, it will be a dark day indeed.

Cant believe nobody has mentioned The National show. One of the best shows of the festival. They were playing during Phil Lesh so that explains a lot but wow! These guys were incredible.

1. Thievery Corporation( hardest i danced the whole festival)

2. STS9( even tho last years langerado STS9 show blew this one out the water

3. The National

4. The New Deal

5. That crazy ass disco tent had great DJ's. Best late night dance party besides sts9.

Great Weekend. See you at Rothbury
