my first dave show was in '96 and bela fleck and the entire flecktones joined them on stage for almost an hour of intense jamming, the scene was cool and laid back and all was great. . . .. fast forward 7 years and the scene sucks, a lot of disrespectful fratboy fans and drunks, and the jams didn't really "progress". . . . . I've got no interest in him now, which is really sad. . . . .

Yeah, the DMB crowd isn't what it used to be. They still can put on a good show here or there. When they bust out some deep cut songs and actually play some integral and progressive songs, they can be some intense emotional music. I'm thinking DMB is gonna pull out some heavyweight guest artist (hopefully Warren or JB) at Rothbury. If Dave would just learn to solo this band would be a lot better, but since he plays for mostly a bunch of drunk fratboys, he doesn't need to do much to please them (if they are even paying attention. Eh, they still right good songs. Man f*ckin "bros", they gotta ruin everything.

I've seen Dave a few times and I've always been on the lawn or in the nose bleeds...This year I'm gonna try warehouse even though its a ripoff and hopefully i could score just one pair of seats outta the saratoga shows or darien lake. If not i'll sell them off to some abercrombie blanket frat ppl who will pay up the ass for them on ebay :P And if Warren Haynes comes out for DMB or Phil Lesh at Rothbury that would be a nice treat. Just enjoy the music and dance, fuck the frat kids, i'm sure they don't give a shit about you either. I can hear the bass, the jams are very together. If you don't even like dave then how do you know about how loud or soft the bass is in concert. I have an idea, don't go if you don't their music, its that simple.

Say what you will about the band, but the crowd is Custie Heaven. You can sell these kids shit on a skewer and call it "Thai Stick" and rage it all day long. Hell, These kids have more money to spend than any scene I've ever seen. Just rage the lot, get back in your car and shoot across ton for a real show. I hit the lot at Red Rocks just about every year, and while I may want to vomit from the stuff I see and hear while there, I always drive away with a pocket full of cash.

I followed the dead for 10 years, see over 100 shows a year and I enjoy DMB for sure. DMB doesn't always have the greatest jams or the greatest crowd. But I can remember the same scene at The Dead.Agreed, the clean Abercrombie frat boys and karoake thing are odd and don't interest me. i have so much respect for dmb,ive seen them about 7 times.but after starting to get into cheese, moe., ext., i realized how watered down the jams are and had no real energy. with moe.,cheese, the jams are so different and fresh everytime you see never know whats going to happen within a song, but with dave its set in stone what they are going to do and nothing changes within a song.its like if moe played meat the exact same every fuckin time,it wouldnt be as fresh.example knoxville show last week ,meat was different from the meat i saw in 05 in asheville. he is a great song writer and dave and tim would be cool to see,but it just got boring.also the fans suck balls. the last time i went to a show and i was just where some patchwork pants, and i got looked at like i was crazy or some shit. fuck overall fanbase of dave(some are cool) but fuck most.i will never go back to dave in my life, peace.

I dig DMB. They're jams aren't fresh, they sacrifice the looseness of jams, to be an extremely tight band. They play some emotional tunes. I agree with someone who posted earlier who said, "they're a gateway band". They exposed me to real jam bands.

However, face price of a reserved ticket is $75. With ticketbastard fees, a single ticket is $95. Sorry, WAY too overpriced IMO. I won't be catching them this time around.

It has been said on this thread the jam scene can be very judgmental, or the yups don't know their tunes. All can be said about anybody. Placing large gleaming generalities on huge masses of people is kind of worthless. Bring a great crowd, some of your best friends/ with the people you enjoy, listening to what you all love...and don't worry too much about what tends to bother you. Every crowd has their bad apples, and gems.

Why does everyone on here judge on clothing, why be trivial? i agree with Filo on this subject. I have been to a bunch of DMB shows, Phish shows, UM, Cheese, dead, etc. One thing ive learned is there is always one person that pisses me off, and someone i can always dig with. Just cause 60% of the crowd chose to be in a fraturnity after high school doesnt mean you should dog tha band. Im sure Dave would apologize for writing music that people enjoyed, even drunk frat guys. But i walked into a frat house in 06 and they were jammin the dead. So i guess The Dead is a worthless frat band too? If you dig the music and can afford the tix then see the band. If not dont go. Ill be at Deer Creek, Rothbury, Bridgeview, and Columbus checkin out DMB.

Haha here we go again...

First of all, DMB crowds at most venues do suck. Go to any other show, and I literally mean almost any show (not necessarily within the jamband community), and you will realize this. I still enjoy the music and will go to his show at Rothbury, but at traditional venues it is IMPOSSIBLE for the crowd to not ruin your experience. Everybody knows every word and sings at the top of their lungs so that you can't even hear Dave singing...why do you think they turn up his mic so loud? I just don't see myself paying 50/60 dollars for that kind of experience.

I don't really get all the whining. I think I would rather go to a day show and party with some college kids opposed to some of these other jam shows were all you can find are people too fucked to have a conversation because there are on too many rolls or have taken too many doses in their lifetime.

That said, I am exciting for DMB to be back on tour again. Im from MI, and I got that Clarkston show (which happens to be where I live.) and Rothbury shows to look forward to.

People need to quit talking shit about these crowds. DMB might have a bit of a trendy following, but EVERYONE likes DMB! Why? They are awesome. Yes, the crowd has annoyed me at times, but I don't know if they have annoyed me anymore then some obnoxious hippies at some fests, or those fucking spaced out people any jamtronica show, or any oldschool jamband show.

I saw Dave on a three day run at Deer Creek. I enjoyed his music, some hot chicks wanted me to go and I wanted to spend three glorious nights at Green Acres. I can say the crowd did suck. I remember a little frat boy yelling when he started a good cover, to play "that song about the ants." I wanted to leave instantly, but stuck it out because, well, hot chicks. What was really bad was he played many repeat songs from previous nights, and encored a song he played the first night, not in a good phish or dead way. However I have seen him with Trey at Landmark, which was very good and I thought his and friends show at 1st Vegoose was incredible, so damn, thank you etc. I wouldn't see his band, although they are talented, by themselves, ever again.

If you enjoy listening to DMB, then it's an absolute MUST to avoid the lawn at any of the shows...I swore off the lawn years ago due to my frustration with drunken girls on frat-boys' shoulders screaming "Play Crash!" I was almost beaten-up once because I accidentally bumped into some dude's girlfriend. I trully love DMB, but sometimes the crowd can really test my limits of patience and tolerance. Dave Matthews is the reason I love the music I do. In fact I remember exactly how it happened. I was listening to Under The Table and Dreaming on my discman in 8th grade and my music teacher, Mr. Rothenberg, came in and asked me what I was listening to. When I told him he said "Oh yeah I saw them open for The Grateful Dead years ago, they're great!" "The Grateful Dead? Who are they?" I said to myself. And so it began. So I for one feel indebted to DMB (and Joe Rothenberg) for introducing me to the music that has defined the last decade of my life. They are solid musicians fronted by onwe of the best singer-songwriters of our time, and anyone who refuses to give them a chance because of their lame ass crowds is quite simply too close minded to call themselves a fan of good music. Notice I said "give them a chance" not "love them". Stand Up = one of the worst albums DMB could have hoped to put out. Any of their others (except maybe Everyday) = Quality displays of superb musicianship. Plus you don't have to be rolling or trippin balls to enjoy their music. (hint hint shit talking bisco kids)

CUSTIE HEAVEN! I love it! I always wondered where all the Custies went after Phish broke down, now I know! Apparently they are wandering around the lot at DMB shows looking to get their hands on some dank headies, hella good brews, and wicked kind icy cold dope ass chronic! God Bless the Custies, my college tuition would not have been paid without them.

you guys are all funny. this band has some of the best love songs of all time. while most of you only fall in love with drugs or not having to go to work, you probably wont understand what I'm saying. Its cool. Trustafarians are ridiculous. You stink Take a shower and stop leaching off of your parents. This band is better than most at writing good songs that dont have to last twenty minutes. Im a huge Phish fan and love jams but not every band has to push that bill. Dave has one of the best attitudes in the history of the music industry and you people need to start realizing that just bc some people listen to a band doesn't mean that you're the same kind of person if you like them too. It just means that artist is very talented and proves this by the fact that this many different kind of people are affected by an article. I hate dealing with trendy ass people but I put up with it to experience greatness.

And I'll definitely trade a beer for a dose. or some headies. LOL

jeez people chill out. so what if DMB happens to appeal to a bunch of different fan bases? they have great talent, jam well, feed off of crowd energy, and dave writes some amazing lyrics. add it all up and of course more than just pure music fans are gonna like them. yeah some fans can be annoying but DEAL WITH IT. they have as much right to be there and enjoy the music as you do. everyone enjoys it in their own way, and that's one reason (out of many) that DMB is a great band.

Rollin' Rosemary!

I'm not here to diss dMb, because im obsessed. But I will agree that dMb does probably have one of the worst crowds next to O.A.R. But its not the bands fault, its really the fans. Some are there because they absolutly love dmb and what they bring to the table (cough cough). But then there are the poeple that are just there to party and meet chicks (cough cough KIDDING!.) It get me annoyed when i see guys like that i think wow i really wish you were someone i could wrap my arm around ur neck and screm lyrics with.

but i never get that vide from most of the people at those kind of "bro" shows.

Oh and plenty of people at DMB know what a dose is and have many times. It's just not in your face every second. You can go to a show and not hear "molly" every 2 seconds. I think it's refreshing.

I love DMB. That being said, I swore that I would never go see them on the lawn again. Last summer @ Deer Creek Dave started making fun of the crowd because most of them were making real ass holes of themselves by completely ignoring the show and yelling at each other during the show. The saddest part is that most of the crowd thought it was funny. So, this year when I saw the lineup, I decided not to go because I didn't feel like wasting $60 to listen to a bunch of.....whatevers scream and yell at eachother. HOWEVER, I am going to be at Rothbury and I am really hoping that since it will be a festival setting, the vibe, music, and the passion will be there. Please respect the person next to you that spent their hard earned money on a ticket. Sit back, relax, and enjoy! Here's to hoping that DMB brings it at Rothbury and to AN AWESOME FUCKING LINEUP!!! Peace

I've bought tickets to the 2 spac shows and i actually spent 80 bucks on the second night hoping beyond hope that trey would make an appearance. (he was on house arrest in the saratoga area and has played with literally every band that has come thru there recently) well i guess he's no longer stuck in saratoga and im down 80 bucks. this'll be my 1st dmb experience and im very nervous about the crowd after reading these comments. ive seen moe, abb, and ratdog a few times and the crowd/experience was great. Plus i havent heard a song i've liked by dmb since 96. Really hoping for a miracle like trey making one more trip to spac
