Sam Beam is one my favorite artists, but be weary of these shows. Unless the venue is known for being quiet and intimate, just don't bother. What he does is a beautiful thing, but it's pretty impossible to be translated in an atmosphere of beer bottles crashing and non-stop chatter from the back.

Great comment KCReb. It is true. You need to really have a smaller venue to really get the most out of the show.

I saw him a couple of years ago at Headliners in Louisville when I&W was touring w/ Calexico. Beam's solo set suffered terribly from the crashing beer bottles and chatter mentioned by KCReb, but hte set w/ Calexico was fabulous and overcame the distractions. I think his newer material is more along these lines, so hopefully these shows will be great no matter the distractions. Itt would be great to see him do a tour of small theaters, though.

Califone's last album, Roots and Crowns, is a masterpiece.

I saw them in San Diego recently. GREAT show.

If you have a chance, make sure you catch them on this tour.
