I think we all here know you would go to Coachella if you were next door and had free tickets, you'd be an idiot not too. Quit trying to sound like there isn't at least one reason to go. If there isn't even one band on that list that you can't "get into" a little bit, then you shouldn't be listening to music in the first place.

it's too bad that none of you are in to electronic music, b/c this lineup is actually quite nasty. consider: fatboy slim, modeselektor, sasha & digweed, m.i.a., boys noize, junkie xl, james zaviela, sebastian, justice, chromeo, simian mobile disco, booka shade!! are you kidding me? that's disgusting. and not even to speak of sharon & the daps, battles, portishead, waters, ETC. (and yes, kraftwerk). i'm sure some would criticize me for not including several other artists on this list...

I'd be interested to hear about some of these bands from people who've actually seen them. I'll start the ball rolling by saying both Les Savy Fav and Akron/Family spank most of the competition in the live setting. Truly unique experiences almost every time. And speaking of spank, Spank Rock is a good time in concert. Animal Collective is rarely less than interesting live, and reggae legend Linton Kwesi Johnson should be a trip in this setting. And heavy music fans are in for a treat with Turbonegro back on U.S. shores. For lovers of music in the archetypal sense there's a lot here to be jazzed about.

I get Waters Headlining, but Jack Johnson and Portishead ? ? ? when did Portishead ever have that big of a following ? ? Am I missing something here ? ? I'v only seen Jack Johnson at Bonnaroo a few years ago, and he got totally drowned out by all the other bands on different stages. This festival might end up being a disaster. anymore than $150 a ticket is a total rip-off for this.

Waters is a greedy tool bag. Id rather watch Austrailian Floyd over him any day. At least they can still play their instruments. This is coming from a huge Floyd fan. Obscured By Clouds is a sick album but theres no way he would play that, talk about an album no one knows about. Who do you think drove up the price of addmision?

Jukebox Hero

I probably won't be able to swing the $280 ticket price, but this line-up is packed full of good acts. Anybody who has never listened to The Bees is really missing out. I think even the people on this site who ignorantly hate on most indie music would like them. fordaj- I've had my fingers crossed for a pavement reunion for years, but I just don't think it's gonna happen anytime soon. In the meantime, you should check out Malkmus and the Jicks. They write great songs and jam out more than Pavement ever did (which can be both good and bad) not to mention that their drummer (Janet Weiss from Sleater-Kinney) is a powerhouse and sexy as shit to boot.

This fest is gonna totally boost Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza ticket sales. This is worse than a Pitchfork line-up (you know, the fest that only "cool indie" people who don't like anyone to like the bands that they like play at. Last year they had Yoko Ono and a bunch of other "Indie rock darlings"). and whats with all these shitty bands that went away (breeders and portishead) that are trying to make a comeback now? It didn't work for the Gin Blossoms, and it's not gonna work for them. haha.

and for all the people making fun of the 'indie scene,' just remember that for every tight pant / black hair / emo glasses joke you can make about them, they probably have just as many patchwork / dreadlock / patchouli / hackey sack jokes.. stereotypes are stupid.

there's a LOT of good music that goes through coachella. if you're too ignorant and close-minded to at least give it a shot, then it's your loss.

i'm definitely not going to this but let's talk pink floyd! piper at the gates of dawn is amazing, but syd's solo stuff is frustratingly inconsistent. a saucerful of secrets is good, especially the title track. the film music they did in the late 60s/early 70s is pretty decent. atom heart mother is worth it for the title track alone, same with meddle and echoes. but DSOTM in my opinion is the most over-rated album ever...what a shame they changed things so much in 1972. if you want to get into 'early' floyd check out piper, then umma gumma, then go to and find some pre-'72 recordings. or the early '72 show where they gave up playing the DSOTM set and played the old epics instead...rant over!

Prince is one of the greatest performers ever. If you have never seen any live stuff, rent Sign O' The Times where sheila e bangs out a couple mean solos and prince his some unforgetabble notes. Even if you dont like his studio stuff or his commercial publicity, I'm pretty sure it is tough not to have fun at his show.

dont hate on floyds later albums because they went progressive. the later albums were the most brilliant in my mind, i also like their early stuff but alot of it is just trippy sounds

You can't say dark side is bad beacus it's overplayed. It is one of the greatest albums ever recorded. But meddle is a great album, and I also love animals. But Brian67, your a fucking IDIOT. You don't sound that cool just beacuse you know older Pink Floyd albums, and to call DSOTM a shame, well my friend, that just makes you sound like a jack-ass. I feel confident in saying you no nothing about music.

Prince being added - not sure if that is a good thing or not.

What do others think?

I guess Prince being added could be good or bad...depending on whether or not you like his music. Ya think? I know that the guy can melt the damn fretboard on a guitar. Anyhow, I could not resist but to jump in this Floyd conversation. I absolutely LOVE Pink Floyd. I think, though, that it may be a bit pompous to denounce someone's fanhood because they haven't been exposed to the band's entire catalogue. Actually it's quite assenine. I'd be willing to bet that most peoples' first exposure to the band was Dark Side or the Wall. Give people some time to grow. While it may suggest something about their level of fanhood, I wouldn't go as far as to say someone is not a fan, should they know a little less. My favorite albums are Meddle, Wish You Were Here, Animals, Dark Side of the Moon, the Wall, Saucerful Of Secrets, Umma Gumma and on...I'm not the biggest fan of what Syd Barrett wrote. Just my preference. I respect that anyone else's preference may differ.

wow, muffinman, relax! besides spelling/punctuation, you have to work on recognizing explicitly-stated opinion. note how i said "in my opinion" in my post. i have just as much of a right to an opinion as you do; how was i trying to sound cool? and i never said "dark side is bad beacus (sic) is overplayed" and neither did liberalsformichaelsavage. i think it's a great album, and I THINK it's one of the great 'tragedies in music' that there seems to be no video footage of a live 1970s DSOTM performance. but i don't think it compares to their earlier work... I THINK it turned them away from being obscure and VERY experimental and turned them towards commercial/pop accessibility. even roger waters said in a 1968 interview that they fit a very small, specific audience: 'we should be playing small clubs...we couldn't use our lightshow because of all the cameras.' yeah i'm a nerd about pink floyd, but that quote really makes me feel bitter about how they changed in the 70s, especially by adding an increasingly huge backing band, something they really only used for AHM before (and that was, in my opinion, glorious!). and yeah i feel that roger waters is beating DSOTM into the ground by playing it again and again. ... but rhythmic_randomness has a good point--my first actual experience listening to floyd was piper at the gates of dawn, so i guess i'm biased to the stuff that seems to directly point at barrett as an influence--the EARLY pop music, and the pre-DSOTM acid space rock. ... and i never said DSOTM is a shame, i was saying it was a shame that their live show was completely overhauled to play DSOTM, something which i wouldn't agree with because as i've said i prefer the earlier stuff. muffinman you also shouldn't claim to be fact that which is subjective. DSOTM isn't "one of the greatest albums recorded" unless you base greatness on number of albums sold; it's just one of YOUR favorite albums, right? also: "your a fucking moron" is not fact, just an opinion (albeit a poorly written one). agree to disagree! you can probably tell i'm obsessed with pink floyd but i knew i'd get SOMEONE to argue about what i said; i just wish you had made a better argument =)

this line-up is diverse and perfect. go to the a dark star remake if you dont like the progression of music and/or the future.

LOL you people are hilarious. You think the line up sucks? You obviously didn't note that after Prince was announced the fest sold out.

Enough with the indie/emo jokes. Such a sad sub culture it's not even worth mentioning...
