JamBase | The High Seas
Go See Live Music!
this is the best event ever, no doubt
see you in 50 weeks!:)
I'll be there. god damn, good work my friends.
One of these years, I gotta get on that damn boat ... !
just thinking, what is Jam Cruise's drug policy? seems weird to light up on a boat.
One of these days....I am going....
Oh and by the way whats up with that pic of Ian Neville, he looks like an alien haha.
i wanna cry. im going next year, thanx for the pix, its bitersweet though. i want hear that al n fishman bowie stuff
I gotta go someday too. damnit!!
Hats off Mark Brown
I see NoLa was all over that ship... Hey you guys at JamCruise.. Nola has a cruise line terminal ... and we have the talent .. lets get a jamcruise that starts in Nola.... The Mardi Gras JamCruise .. sounds like a winner to me .. oh yeah .. the bingo show would be awsome on the ship too..
i did my first jam cruise this year.. quite possibly the best time i've ever had in my life. there is nothing that i've experienced that can compare to the unbelievable sensory overload that is jam cruise... such an amazing experience through and through!
Oh let me tell you about this past jam Cruise.... Laying in the hot tub with a bowl of the sticky icky burning... 2 topless co-eds from FSU on either side of me....And Ivan Neville sitting in a chair next to us buying rounds of Coronas and Cuervo shots... Life don't get that much better, my friends......
I wouldnt ever be able to leave that boat. King, that sounds like something from a dream I had!! I dont even know how you would top something like that!!
Um... Would smoking a fattie with Boots Riley right before he went onstage with Galactic, top that?
Don't forget about Jans Ingber! He killed it with EO, The Motet's cover set and with the "Oh You Pretty Things". his vocals are unbelievable!
my first jamcruise and i will never miss another!! truly epic!!!! :) see you next year!!
King Rhino my man !! wuz definitely a grand time...but i think you mighta gotten Ivan mixed up w/ Ian neville ...As Ivan wuz on da Boat Jammin out havin a good time & what not ...but I know for a fact ...He does not drink Coronas & Cuervo shots!!! Maybe sum water or a lil seven up!!! But still Jammin & Hangin jus da same!!!
looks amazing...went last year. this year i chose solid ground and umphreys in jamaica. hopefully i can do both next year but umph is priorito numero uno
fishman has long hair again hehe. i wanna hear him in the sax.
looks like a riot dont get me wrong, but hasnt the linup been slipping? i remember the first few years was off the chain and now it looks ok but nothing amazing. i would die to go and am jealous of all that went so please dont start a huge flame war but i am just saying.
it was my second cruise and it was even better than the first. so much good music going on, you can not even put it into words really. so this article counts as a nice try :)
BUT: get your facts right: JC I and II were in the same year, so this was not the 6th year of existence. and it has not developed into the most unique musical experience, it started as exactly that and only keeps developing into something even more magical.
sorry about the criticism, but since both those points were in the very first sentence i just could not let it go ;) - carry on.
sleewell: in response to your comment - that was exactly what i was thinking (ok, i actually thought last year was the strongest ever, which is one reason i finally made it on the boat for the first time, but reading the line-up for this year i thought it was a little weaker in terms of talent. but it made it a) a little easier actually seeing most of the sets i wanted to see (and that is such an overstatement it's not even funny. i did so much running around catching little snippets of shows) and b) for some reason the sit-ins and set were even better and more coherent this year. but maybe that is all perception anyway. plus i got to see more bands i did not know before but that i really liked compared to last year.
Why only one sentence about The Bridge?
The won Relix / Headcount's 'Vote to the Boat' by a landslide...
And they were invited to play a special greening party on the top deck the last afternoon...
And members of the band sat in with the likes of DSO, Kimock, Everyone Orchestra...
Kinda disappointed with the token mention considering there were 50+ from Baltimore (home of the Bridge)
How much would a trip like this cost after all expenses?
It's funny how New Monsoon gets NO respect...I dont get it
costs depend on where you have to travel from and how much you drink. pretty much everything except for alcohol and land excursions are included and cheapest cabins start at about 750 pp. micro brews are 3.25 a bottle, mix drinks are more but i don't know how much.
funny how many people complain about one band or another not getting enough respect in this article. you can not give enough respect to any of them if you write 3 pages on them alone. and you would need books to give props to this event. what do you expect, with this kind of trip and adventure and this number of bands? i saw at least some of every artist that was on board and there was really nothing going on i disliked an only little i would not get excited about. tons of props to grant green jr., never knew anything about him, only his dad. this dude can play the guitar i can tell you and he popped up on every stage!
Tell it Andrew! Did those bands get cut by the eds or did Brian Bavosa not do his homework?
hah worth every penny!!!! haven't gone yet myself because of finances..but a handful of friends from NOLA stopped by my house both before and after their second run on JC...before they even spoke, by the looks on their faces I could tell that no story, article or picture could even remotely show or describe the madness they had endured that week..redamndiculous...I can't wait to go.
TuniPhish - total cost from this trip for both my me and my gf ended up being around $2000 per person, $4000 total. This includes everything: gas driving down, food going there and back, alchohol on the ship, costumes before we even packed, blinky toys, door decorations, stickers, masks, yada ya... it costs a lot, but it was also the most fun that i've ever had.
For the real pics of Jam Cruise make this person your facebook friend:
What a trip! This was my 3rd and best jamcruise so far! They keep getting better and better! I'm already signed up for JC7. I must correct the author and say that we were on the boat for nearly 5 days not 6. I wish it was 6. In fact, I wish we were still on the boat! Its great to hear that George Porter, Jr. and his wife will be with us again next year. He rocked. They ALL rocked. See you next year! But first, moe. in so cali this weekend!!!!!
nice review.. this is something that always makes me wish i had some money..
Um, pauliewalnuts? I think I can tell the difference between IAN and IVAN Neville. And I didn't say Ivan was drinking Coronas and Cuervo. I said he was buying rounds. But, hey... Nice attempt at looking witty... .... DENIED!
More Bridge please! They not only won the "Vote to the Boat", competing against 9 other bands nationally, but received 1/3 of all total votes! In addition, they brought 50 fans from the MD/DC area, most of whom would not have gone on the trip otherwise. These guys are the best! Also happen to be some of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. Catch them when they play in a town near ya! GO BRIDGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yo King Rhino... Not tryin 2 look witty ..my man!! jes settin de record straight!!!
Ok, I have one question, what happened to the dogs after the picture? Wasn't there a story similar a few years back??
1 WORD of ADVISE: PREBOOK!!!!!!
Jamcruise is the BOMB, no matter the lineup, no matter what's going on, and the cost is no more or less than any other TRIP or Festival, and your never more thna 800 feet from your room. having been on alll the ships, Jamcruise 1 ( aka: The Gettho Cruise) was still my best one yet, but JC6 and JC5 are a very close #1 as well. I Prebooked in October 2007 for JC7, see the rest of you freaks there.
& the GREATEST MUSIC KREWE ON EARTH:
The Krewe Of Degenerate Music Junkies
This is the greatest music fest ever - the best time of your life!!!
only 1500-2000 jam cruzers, own bathroom, bed/cabin, all the food you can eat, drinks free (not alcohol or soda, I mean tea, coffee, etc) each band plays twice and the JAM ROOM is amazing. Knowehere to go so everyone wants to Jam. The whole thing including plane tickets from west coast cost me under $1500 for 6 - 7 days of total bliss - amazing, I will be on Jam Cruise until I die or the music takes an about face
Thx Annabel, Toast and rest of Cloud 9, you guys ROCK!!!
BEST TIME OF MY LIFE! As a JC virgin and activities staff member, this was truly the best stroke of luck I have ever had. I always wanted to go on JC, and had buddies of mine that have gone in the past, and the pics never did it justice. Do yourselves a favor, PRE BOOK. Just do it. Buy now and pay it off over the year. You will regret it if you miss out on this boat. The people and vibes are just amazing! Everyone is there to rock out hard, and the motto is true, you can sleep when you are dead. Music is going on non-stop. I can not wait for next year, and thank Shimon Presents/Cloud 9 Productions from the bottom of my heart. THANK YOU!!!!!!!
Hey Brian -- excellent article! You distilled the essence into 3 pages quite succinctly and eloquently. I'm sure you could write a small book with all the details I know you've left out for brevity. :)
Huge props to Annabel, Capt. Toast, Shannon and all the consummate professionals at Cloud 9 who made this THE SMOOTHEST FESTIVAL EVER!
See you on Jamcruise 7! [visit the JC forum for the inside scoop]
Help me! I'm having Jamcruise 6 withdrawls!! I still at times feel the motion of the boat. One of the best times of my life! This article really captures the whole essence of this fantastic voyage. No one told me it was going to be this difficult of a come down. Until next year.....
