Dolly Parton Tour/New Album

New Album
The platinum dynamo pushes forward in her fifth decade as a recording artist with the February 5th release of her new album, Backwoods Barbie, on her own Dolly Records. This marks Parton's first foray into mainstream country in almost 17 years after an extensive exploration of bluegrass and roots music. She wrote nine of the songs for the album and produced the CD with bandleader-guitarist Kent Wells.

Strange bedfellows alert: The video for the first single off Barbie features Strangers With Candy star Amy Sedaris. Check out "Better Get To Livin'" here. However, this pairing is outdone by Dolly's recent interview with Scissor Sisters's lead singer and longtime Dolly fan Jake Shears for an upcoming BBC special titled Jake's Adventures In Dollywood. Get a taste of their interactions here and here.

Parton plans to tour extensively behind Backwoods Barbie including three special club shows: February 4 at The Roxy in Los Angeles, February 11 at Park West in Chicago and February 13 at Highline Ballroom in New York City. These shorter shows will include songs from the new album as well selections from her vast catalog. Tickets will only be available through and supporting radio stations [KKGO in Los Angeles and US99.5 in Chicago].

Say what you will about her looks and persona but Dolly is one hell of a songwriter. And not many performers that had their first hits in the early '60s are still at it, still making hits and still admired by their peers, to boot. Strip away the paint and hair dye and she's a fine musician.

Most people on this website listen to alot of other music, not just the non-existent genre of "Jam". Music news is music new plain and simple. I dont really listen to Dolly, but being so close to her area of birth (Knoxville) I have met and spoken with this woman many times, she is a fantastic person despite her need to upgrade her body, her personality is beautiful. She probaly gives more back to the community that you would never know about than many artists out there.

ALSO, The White Stripes cover of Dolly Parton's "Jolene" is damn good. That is about the only song that I like from them.
