2007’s Sound in Motion will present a kaleidoscope of sight and sound, featuring six bands performing over two nights at two of the best venues downtown Buffalo has to offer. To commence the countdown celebration, the Pearl Street Brewery will play host on 12/29 to an extraordinary evening of exploratory jazz-fusion and industrial samba funk. Performing live will be Brooklyn-bred Beyondo, featuring members of the acclaimed Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra and Hylofi, brainchild of Thought guitarist Tim Allen, boasting an all-star supergroup comprising members of several of the Buffalo and NYC bands appearing on the two-night bill. Both bands performing at Pearl Street offer artistically explosive expression, combining elements of pop, avant-garde, funk and improvisation sure to keep heads moving all the way to the 4 a.m. Buffalo curfew.
The famed Tralf Music Hall will be the setting for Buffalo’s biggest and best NYE bash, featuring some of the region’s finest and most eclectic music acts and visuals by Fractal Project. Commencing the showcase will be former Buffalo heavyweights, Thought. For years, they were a staple of the local music scene and their return is undoubtedly a proper fit to get the party started. Following will be the 12/8 Path Band, a mobile, 10-piece, all acoustic almost marching band that will move the crowd into an interactive frenzy. Toronto’s King Sunshine will ring-in the 2008, blowing the lid off the Tralf with what will surely be one of their legendary, trademark disco dance parties to get folks dancing and sweating just in time for evening ending Lazlo Hollyfeld. Fresh off their first visit to SXSW and two cross-country tours, Lazlo is the most impressive product to come from the Queen City in recent years, producing a textured concoction of decadent grooves capable of cooing any ears.
