While there’s been lots of talk about Trey Anastasio’s participation in the Grateful Dead 50th Anniversary Celebration Shows in Chicago over the Fourth of July Weekend, we’ve been surprised that much hasn’t been made about keyboardist Bruce Hornsby’s role in the concerts. We’re excited to see what Bruce has to say about his role in Chicago this Sunday at 4 p.m. ET, during an episode of Tales From The Golden Raod when he takes calls from listeners on SiriusXM’s Grateful Dead channel (Channel 23).

Bruce Hornsby took time off from his successful solo career to tour with the Grateful Dead in the wake of Brent Mydland’s tragic 1990 death. Though Bruce wouldn’t commit full-time, he did tour with the Dead between late 1990 and 1992 while Vince Welnick came up to speed. It’s been quite some time since Hornsby has performed with the core four of Bob Weir, Bill Kreutzmann, Phil Lesh and Mickey Hart, though he did participate in a run of shows and festival appearances with Bobby in 2012. Weir and Hornsby were plotting a fall tour last year before Bobby cancelled all of his touring plans.

The Virginia native and Fare Thee Well guitarist Trey Anastasio shared the stage during the 2005 Comes A Time tribute concert for “Standing On The Moon”:
