Joe Russo’s Almost Dead | Space Scarlet Fire

As we mentioned last Tuesday, Grateful Dead tribute act Joe Russo’s Almost Dead have launched a new series dubbed “Rad Tracks Tuesday” in which they’ll share a (mostly) unseen and unheard gem for our enjoyment each week. This week’s installment features a 33-minute “Space” > “Scarlet Begonias” > “Fire On The Mountain” from The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY on December 27, 2013.

The “Space/Scarlet/Fire” contains hints of everything we love about this band including raw jamming, impressive interplay and Tommy Hamilton’s spot-on vocals. JRAD shared the track in honor of the coming anniversary of the Dead’s famed May 8, 1977 performance at Cornell University’s Barton Hall. Not only can you watch pro-shot footage of the entire sequence below (there’s a slight camera malfunction during “Space”), but you can download the track for free here.

Joe Russo’s Almost Dead returns this summer at Gathering Of The Vibes and will play a pair of shows in Chicago in September and a pair of shows in Colorado in October.
