Warren Haynes Among Dr. John Tribute Additions

Terence Blanchard, John Boutte, John “Papa” Gros (Papa Grows Funk), Warren Haynes, Dave Malone (The Radiators) and Brian Stoltz (funky METERS, The Neville Brothers) have been added to the lineup for “The Musical Mojo of Dr. John: A Celebration of Mac & His Music,” a special concert event taping honoring this musical icon in his hometown of New Orleans at the Saenger Theatre on May 3.

In addition to the newly announced performers, the concert was already set to include performances from Gregg Allman, Tab Benoit, Ryan Bingham, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Chief Monk Boudreaux, The Dirty Dozen Horns, Bill Kreutzmann, Shannon McNally, Zigaboo Modeliste, Sarah Morrow, Cyril Neville, Anders Osborne, George Porter Jr., Mavis Staples, Allen Toussaint, Lucinda Williams, Irma Thomas, Jimmie Vaughan and Widespread Panic. Famed producer and musician Don Was will lead the house band as he did for January’s Gregg Allman Tribute and the 2012 Love For Levon event. The house band will feature Was joined by Chuck Leavell, Kenny Aronoff, Brian Stoltz, John “Papa” Gros, Brint Anderson and a special appearance by George Porter, Jr. as well as the backing vocals of the McCrary Sisters.

Haynes will play the Saenger with Gov’t Mule featuring special guests the night before the Dr. John Tribute.
