Trey Anastasio & Jen Hartswick Guest With Allman Brothers

On Friday night The Allman Brothers Band played their first show since the final four shows of the Beacon run were postponed at the Wanee Festival in Live Oak, FL. Tonight's set marked the return of Gregg Allman, who missed the last two shows the Allmans did play at the Beacon due to a case of bronchitis. Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio sat in with the group for the first time since 2009 during a set that also saw guest appearances from TAB's Jennifer Hartswick, keyboardist Kofi Burbridge and drummer Duane Trucks. The Trey Anastasio Band had performed earlier in the day at the festival.

Anastasio and Hartswick emerged on guitar and trumpet respectively towards the middle of the set for a take on the Howlin' Wolf classic "Who's Been Talkin'." Trey then stuck around for a cover of the Grateful Dead's "Franklin's Tower." The guitarist first performed with the Allman Brothers Band back on March 22, 2005; when he sat in on "In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed" at the Beacon Theatre in New York City. Anastasio guested with the Brothers again later that year on August 28 at Champlain Valley Exposition in Essex Junction, VT for "Mountain Jam." Trey last collaborated with the legendary group on March 12, 2009 at the Beacon for "Southbound," "I Know You Rider" and "In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed." Hartswick's appearance was her first time performing with the Allman Brothers Band. Later in the Wanee set drummer Duane Trucks came out for "Soulshine," while Kofi Burbridge helped out on "In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed."

The Allman Brothers Band will headline Saturday's activity at the Wanee Festival. Saturday night's Allmans set and other performances from Wanee will be simulcast on SiriusXM's Jam ON channel. We'll have much more from the Wanee Festival, including a full review and photo set, in the coming days.
