Smashing Pumpkins Drummer Guests With Umphrey's

UPDATE 3/5 1 p.m. PT: Umphrey's has shared official video of Jimmy Chamberlain guesting on "Cherub Rock":

On Saturday night Umphrey's McGee concluded a three-night stand at The Riviera Theatre in Chicago with a power-packed finale that included a guest spot from a fellow Chicago musician as original Smashing Pumpkins drummer Jimmy Chamberlain sat in on a "Cherub Rock" encore.

The band came out with a new original intro, "Bathing Digits," before jumping into "Phil's Farm." For the end-of-set trifecta of "The Weight Around," "Bullhead City" and "Night Moves" guitarists Jake Cinninger and Brendan Bayliss strapped on acoustics. "Bullhead City" also featured vocals from Nashville singer-songwriter Daphne Willis.

Umphrey's kicked off the second set with a well-jammed, 25+ minute "Der Bluten Kat." Then, the band debuted a cover of The Cars's "Just What I Needed" featuring Cinninger on lead vocals. When the group returned for the encore drummer Kris Myers told the crowd he didn't know the song they were about to play and wanted to see if there were any drummers in the audience. He then pointed out Chamberlain, who was brought out to huge applause to play on "Cherub Rock," a song he recorded with Smashing Pumpkins for Siamese Dream.
