Cover Alert | Devo Tackles Morning Dew

Earlier today it was revealed that Devo guitarist Bob Casale died suddenly on Monday from health complications that led to heart failure. We’ve been on a Devo listening binge since the sad news was announced and wanted to share an interesting cover the band recorded for 1990’s Smooth Noodle Maps.

“Morning Dew” was written by Canadian artist Bonnie Dobson as a post-apocalyptic folk song that was released in the midst of 1962’s Cuban Missle Crisis. After Grateful Dead guitarist Jerry Garcia heard a version of the tune he quickly brought it to his band mates and soon thereafter it was a staple of the group’s repertoire through 1995. In 1990 Devo showed their knack for reinvention by recording a futuristic-sounding cover of “Morning Dew” for Smooth Noodle Maps.
