Xavier Rudd U.S. Tour

XAVIER RUDD BRINGS HIS POWERFUL LIVE SHOW BACK TO THE U.S.
Acclaimed Australian Performer Takes Break from Scoring
Matthew McConaughey's Surfer Dude to Tour the States

Xavier Rudd
Xavier Rudd, the beloved Australian singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and activist will return to the U.S. on January 8 for a three week tour kicking off in Santa Cruz, CA. The tour will be in support of his Anti- Records sophomore accomplishment White Moth, co-produced with the legendary Dave Ogilvie (David Bowie, Marilyn Manson).

In between sold out tours in Europe, Australia and the U.S., supporting the likes of the Dave Matthews Band and Ani DiFranco, Xavier Rudd has been working on the film score for fellow-surfer and Rudd-fan Matthew McConaughey's Surfer Dude, starring McConaughey, Woody Harrelson and Willie Nelson. "When I was first turned on to Xavier's music, I didn't say 'who is that,' I said 'what is that' and I was instantly addicted to the sound and message," says McConaughey. "He's one of the most original artists in music today and the score he lays down, like our film, will be anything but typical."

Known for his unique blend of folk, reggae, rock and world music, Rudd incorporates not only instruments native to Australia, but also indigenous voices, giving expression to Aboriginal singers, who, Rudd believes "are the special people, who, as human beings, have been connecting with this land for thousands and thousands of years."

Hear Xavier Rudd's score for Surfer Dude summer 2008, and be sure to check out his sure-to-be-stellar U.S tour (all dates with Mishka):

I don't know much about him, but I've heard he's the Australian version of Keller Williams.

kind of...but different. he is keller in the aspect that he is usually alone on stage. and he plays the didgeridoo

saw this cat about 3 years ago at Bele Chere in Asheville. Really had a great groove going and some very exotic soundz.

xavier rudd is just a lot better than keller. he's actually a song writer. keller is just goofy. there are nothing alike. just because they both play acoustic songs doesnt make them the same.

I'm going to go with moejoerisin, but disagree with moecheeseplease. Xavier's definitely less gimmicky, but I still dig Keller's songwriting more. Xavier is to kickdrum and didg beats as Keller is to loop machines and simple but catchy bass lines. Both worth seeing if you never have before! But of course, as an international act, Xavier's only playing select locations... might have to hit up some Boulder theater...

Filo-

YMSB overrated? Maybe just a little. But it is sooo cool to see at least one young bluegrass band is playing venues like Red Rocks.

AUSTINITSUA-

Agreed on the Red Rocks comment. Its good to see bluegrass ANYWHERE being played by young cats, but your point is taken. I love bluegrass, but I guess I had heard so much hype about YMSB, and some of the people there from their reaction to them coming on stage, it was like Jesus appearing or something, and they started playing, and it just seemed like pretty good bluegrass to me, nothing special. Maybe I've seen enough bluegrass to know, maybe not. I definitley tripped out at the three guys next to me that screamed for them to play a particular song all night (which they never did), and then finding out in talking to them they didn't even know who Government Mule was. Warren playing They Love Each Other with YMSB was cool though. Go see Xavier, everyone, a very soulful experience, and he only had like 45 minutes at the particular show I was at. I imagine him all by himself would be even much better.

Yonder Mountain is not overrated - they're outstanding! -- as is both the mule & x. rudd -- just wish x. was showing some midwest love w/ this tour.

Xavier is the BOMB, his music is very socially oriented in that it brings attention to planatary problems, and human existance and an understanding underlying message of love for all and this great planet, he is like Keller in that hes a one man band, but he does a lot less looping, plays many instruments with his four limbs and mouth. his music is less fun than kellers and more socially aware and straight forward, He should be touring with Franti and billed as the world needs change tour....check him out, i wish he was coming to the Great Lake states

Sweet that rudd's back on this side of the pond. Would have liked to see a little more east coast love...wish he had an asheville date in there or something.

Filo-I had friends at that show and said that yonder sucked that night as well. However, I've seen them 5 other times and can't wait to do so again.

MULESTAR-

It was at the House of Blues in Myrtle Beach. I didn't think they sucked at all. I just didn't find them to live up to the experience people had built them up to be. I guess that happens with any band. If they ever come back or come around the Carolinas in a good outdoor bluegrass setting, I'll probably check them out again.

He is spiritual, not in the silly gay way of Franti, either.

Its true.. he is a down to earth person that loves mother earth and cares about human suffering. Keller is more of a gimmick. yes...
