Structural Issues Close Atlanta And Chicago Venues

In two separate incidents The Tabernacle in Atlanta and Chicago's Concord Music Hall were evacuated and subsequently closed last night due to structural issues. The Tab was evacuated after Panic! At The Disco had played two songs, while Datsik's set at Concord Music Hall ended "five or 10 minutes" into his performance.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that "A fire marshal cut short Friday night’s concert at The Tabernacle short after he noticed a light and joists moving on the stage floor where Panic! At The Disco was playing to a sold-out crowd." Thankfully no one was hurt. Notes on The Tabernacle's Facebook Page read, "The safety of all at The Tabernacle - fans, performers and crew - is our number one priority and we will always side with caution. We were completely impressed with how calmly everyone left the building when directed by the Fire Marshall. The Tabernacle is a historical 100 year old building. We will be meeting with a structural engineer ASAP to make sure the building is safe for another 100 years" and "The safety of every fan, performer and crew member at the Tabernacle is our top priority. Structural engineers are on site and are implementing an immediate action plan. Tonight's Corey Smith show has been reschedule for Saturday, May 10th. Tickets for the original February 8th date will be honored. Please hold on to them. Panic! at The Disco ticket holders can get refunds at their point of purchase. We will release more details as they become available."

Meanwhile in Chicago three attendees were hospitalized after a partial ceiling collapse at Concord Music Hall. "At first, I didn't know what was going on. There was dust in the air, but I thought it was part of the show. I thought it was fog, but a minute or so after that, security had come to the area and aided the people who might have been injured and cleared it out," witness Robert Foulks told WLS. A statement from venue staff reads, "Concord Music Hall has voluntarily agreed to close until further notice due to a section of plaster falling from its ceiling during a show last night. During this time, Concord will fully cooperate with all City of Chicago officials to ensure that there are no ongoing concerns for the safety of its patrons and its employees."
