Mike Gordon Guests With Max Creek In Burlington

Phish bassist Mike Gordon has a long history of sitting in with jam scene forerunners Max Creek. Gordon added to the over a dozen appearances he’s made with the band over the years last night at Higher Ground’s Showcase Lounge in South Burlington, VT.

Gordon emerged four songs into Max Creek’s first set and stuck around for the rest of the opening stanza. The bassist’s appeared on takes of “Willow Tree,” The Pointer Sisters’s “Yes We Can Can,” “The Field” and Paul Simon’s “Diamonds On The Soles Of Her Shoes.”

Mike has long been a fan of Max Creek. Phish covered the band’s “Back Porch Boogie” in their early days and teamed up with Max Creek for a concert at UVM’s Patrick Gym in 1989. Max Creek guitarist Scott Murawski has become a trusted collaborator of Gordon’s and is a member of the bassist’s five-piece that hits the road later this month. The keyboardist for Mike’s five-piece, Tom Cleary, also sat in with Max Creek on Saturday night in Burlington. Cleary helped out on “Cruel World” and “I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight” at the start of the second set.
