Flashback | Richie Havens Guests With The Band At Arrowhead

Between 1990 and 1992 the idyllic Arrowhead Ranch in Parksville, NY was the center of the jam world before the scene blew up to what is is now. Kenny & Michele Hoff of New Jersey founded the site and with the help of Bill Graham welcomed a mix of up-and-coming rock improv groups and legendary rock acts in the summer of 1991 including Blues Traveler, the Spin Doctors, Phish, Widespread Panic, The Radiators, Hot Tuna, ARU, Billy Preston, The Band and Richie Havens. Sadly, this musical utopia of sorts didn't last long and all that remained were wonderful memories when The Hoff's said farewell to Arrowhead in 1992.

One of the many memorable concerts at Arrowhead Ranch took place on July 8, 1991 featuring The Band with special guest Billy Preston. For their encore, The Band welcomed the great Richie Havens to join them on a stirring version of "I Shall Be Released." Watch how it went down:
