Throwback Thursday | Allman Brothers Band With Eric Clapton

Last week the Allman Brothers Band announced they will return to the Beacon Theatre this March for their annual run at the NYC venue. The residency took on a whole new feel with yesterday's stunning revelation that guitarists Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes will be leaving the band at the end of the year, setting the stage for what should be an unforgettable run. Also add in that The Allmans will be celebrating their 45th anniversary in 2014 and you have the makings of magic.

We want to take this occasion to look back at perhaps the best March Madness residency, when the band welcomed a cavalcade of guests for their 40th anniversary. Back in 2009 Eric Clapton sat in with the Allman Brothers Band as part of the aforementioned 40th Anniversary March Madness Run at the Beacon Theatre. Slowhand guested with the Allmans on March 19 and 20 for each show’s entire second set. Watch pro-shot footage of the second set from the 19th featuring takes on "Layla," "Dreams," "Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad" and more:

Set: Key To The Highway, Dreams, Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad, Little Wing, Anyday, Layla
