Pullin' 'Tubes | Deer Tick Covers The Kinks Father Christmas

If you’ve gone into just about any establishment over the last week, your earholes have probably been subjected to an insufferable amount of saccharine-sweet holiday music – it’s just unavoidable this time of year. While we certainly are far from grinches around these parts, we’re pretty selective with what we endorse as high-quality yuletide tunes. So it’s with that statement that we’d like to officially put the JamBase stamp of approval on Deer Tick's version of The Kinks holiday classic "Father Christmas," which the band recorded as a web exclusive for Conan O’Brien’s TBS late night talk show.

The Providence, RI band got in the spirit of things by donning their best holiday sweaters and Santa hats for their take on the song, which was first released as a single back in 1977. The tune tells the story of a department store Santa who is beaten up by a gang of poor kids who tell him to give them money instead of toys, and asks that the toys be given "to the little rich boys." It's just about the perfect Christmas song in so many ways for John McCauley & Co. to put their bar-rock spin on. Let’s check it out:
