Aaron Freeman Releases Final Gene Ween Recordings

Aaron Freeman closed the book on his Gene Ween persona in May of 2012, bringing the career of Ween to an end for the foreseeable future. Freeman has rounded up six demos that he recorded between 2009 -2011 for a compilation called Gener’s Gone: The Final Recordings Of Gene Ween (2009 -2011) that’s available for purchase via Bandcamp.

As per the Bandcamp page, “After 20+ years of near-fatal drug & alcohol abuse (thankfully culminating with intensive but successful rehab), AARON FREEMAN (aka Gene Ween) was left in a dire financial situation. All proceeds will go directly to Aaron, as he continues down the path toward creative freedom and personal health. These demos represent the final writings and music of Gene Ween, before he departed and the inner FREEMAN emerged. On that note, we have received a two word personal statement from Aaron: ‘stay tuned.'”

We don’t envy Freeman’s position. It’s easy to think, “why not just do a Ween tour if you need money?” Yet we can understand how scary the proposition of returning to the previous life Aaron had on tour as part of Ween must be.
