Sunday Cinema | Neil Young Don't Be Denied Documentary

[Originally Published 11/10/2013]

PBS aired an installment of American Masters devoted to Jimi Hendrix last year that really impressed and entertained us. The documentary left us looking for other American Masters installments dealing with legendary rockers and we came across Neil Young - Don't Be Denied, which aired in 2009.

Producer / director Ben Whalley was given unprecedented access to the normally reclusive Young and weaved footage of his discussions with Neil with performance clips from the rocker's archives and interviews with those who worked with the Canadian singer-songwriter over the years as well as musicians who've been inspired by him. Neil Young - Don't Be Denied tells the story of Young from his early days in Ottawa through to his hitting it big in California right on up to his controversial Iraqi war protest album of 2006.

Those interviewed include David Crosby, Nils Lofgren, Graham Nash, Thom Yorke, Emmylou Harris, Steve Earle and Stephen Stills. So take an hour out of your day and check out Don't Be Denied:
