Sunday Cinema | Happy Birthday Page McConnell

By Scott Bernstein May 17, 2015 8:50 am PDT

Today Phish keyboardist Page McConnell celebrates his 52nd birthday. The year has already been memorable as Leo celebrated the 30th anniversary of his first performance with band earlier this month, having made his Phish debut on May 3, 1985. In honor of The Chairman of the Board’s birthday, we’re presenting McConnell’s 45-minute workshop from the 2007 High Sierra Music Festival in which he answered fans’ questions and played a handful of songs by himself. It’s unlike anything Page has ever done in his career and thankfully there’s fantastic video of the workshop.

McConnell starts off the session with a cover of Elton John’s “Tiny Dancer” and runs through Phish classics “Strange Design,” “Army Of One” and “Wading In The Velvet Sea” in addition to “Maid Marian” off his solo debut. Page even closes the workshop in fitting fashion -with his iconic “Squirming Coil” outro solo.

Put aside 45 minutes of your day to check out Page McConnell’s High Sierra workshop:
