The Dave Matthews Band played their second of two consecutive shows at Jones Beach in Wantagh, NY last night. The band kicked off the show with the extremely old school sequence of “Seek Up,” “Proudest Monkey” and “Satellite” and wound up focusing on material from their oldest albums including five songs from 1996’s Crash, a pair of songs off their Remember Two Things debut and three tunes from their breakthrough Under The Table And Dreaming LP.
However the evening’s biggest surprise came nine songs in the set, when Matthews and his band dusted off their cover of “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper” by Blue Oyster Cult. DMB first covered the tune on September 3, 2011 at The Gorge, but had yet to play it again until last night. Matthews mentioned that the late LeRoi Moore was a huge fan of the song and that ‘Roi always wanted the DMB to cover the FM radio staple.
At the first Jones Beach show, DMB dusted off another classic rock cover by performing their version of “Good Times, Bad Times” by Led Zeppelin which had also gone unplayed since the Gorge shows in 2011.
