JOHN SCOFIELD’S BIG SUMMER

John Scofield’s newest album will drop July 2, just a few weeks after the beginning of the John Scofield Uberjam Band summer tour. Uberjam Deux is the follow up album to the original Uberjam released in 2002. Though Scofield and company have not been dormant the past 11 years, as he’s released seven other albums with other lineups, since Uberjam – Scofield seems confident that fans of the original Uberjam will not be disappointed by the new album.

“We used all kinds of different grooves for this record, but they are all basically dance grooves. Some might say they are from the African diaspora; there’s Rhythm and Blues, Afro-beat, reggae and house, but whatever they are they are all funky. We used all these amazing world-grooves to blow over. Certain songs have been evolving over the ten years since Überjam; Avi Bortnick had been working on some of these groove ideas and we took them and developed them into what you hear on our new record” said Scofield in a press release.

The album features several other musicians including Avi Bortnick on guitar and samples, Andy Hess (Gov’t Mule) on bass, Adam Deitch (Lettuce) on drums, Louis Cato (Lettuce) on drums, and John Medeski on organ, wurlitzer, and mellotron. Though, the Uberjam Band that is on tour this summer consists solely of Scofield, Hess, Bortnick and drummer Tony Mason. Jazz pianist McCoy Tyner will also be joining the Uberjam Band on June 29th at the Saratoga Jazz Festival.
