BEHIND THE SCENES FOOTAGE SHOWS
CANDID MOMENTS IN THE LIFE OF THE GRATEFUL DEAD

In 1992 the Grateful Dead put out a VHS release called Backstage Pass containing 35 minutes of behind-the-scenes footage of the band members directed by drummer Bill Kreutzmann's son Justin. For many years in the late '80s Justin kept his camcorder filming the sometimes exciting sometimes monotonous life of the Grateful Dead on tour. While Backstage Pass was only 35 minutes, two hours worth of the footage the younger Kreutzmann shot between 1986 and 1989 has been circulating in Deadhead circles for years.

Recently, the entire two-hour Grateful Dead 1986-1989 Home Movies collection was uploaded to YouTube in one easy-to-watch video. Some of the best moments find Jerry Garcia playing his guitar by his lonesome backstage as well as scuba diving in Hawaii, plus the Dead rehearsing with Bob Dylan. All in all, there's tons of live and backstage footage from the Brent Mydland era which gives Deadheads an unusual look at their favorite band.

Let's watch over two hours of Grateful Dead home movies:
