TOM PETTY AND THE HEARTBREAKERS COVER GRATEFUL
DEAD CLASSIC AT NYC'S BEACON THEATRE

Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers' five-show residency at the Beacon Theatre in New York City continued last night. Early on in the second show of the residency, Petty told the crowd that he planned a different setlist than the previous night's run-opening concert and warned there would be plenty of "deep tracks."

Petty was true to his word and mixed album tracks with covers including a rare take on "Green Onions" by Booker T. and the MGs. Also played was the Heartbreakers' version of "Friend Of The Devil" by the Grateful Dead. Tom and his band first started covering "Friend Of The Devil" during their Fillmore Residency in 1997, but had stowed the song away until this past weekend's Hangout Music Fest.
