Arcade Fire's Cryptic Message

Arcade Fire Post Cryptic Message on Website

Arcade Fire
Arcade Fire has posted a brief, cryptic message on their Neon Bible website. When visitors click on a closed eye it opens and reveals the following message: "Be oNline B October 6th."

We have no idea what's going on October 6, but we sure do love Arcade Fire and recommend checking it out.

They are playing at Randalls Island on the sixth in an outdoor show. They are probably planning something special> i think they are having a baptism by acid.

Please don't compare this band to Phish. Granted they are cool, but Phish earned it and this band just getting started njphish.

this is a cheap tactic to manufacture artificial/unwarrented interest. that aside, its a cool gimmic as gimmics go.

I love these “Who the Hell are Arcade Fire and why should I care” posts. Yea – I know lots of people who don’t know who they are. These are the same people who never heard of Widespread Panic, Ween, Flaming Lips, The Shins or a million other great bands. These people aren’t exactly what I call “music fans”.

If you are half way into music, you would know Arcade Fire. Shit – Funeral sold over 300,000 copies and I think Neon Bible is exceeding 500,000 (US alone). They have been selling out mid-sized venues all over the US (3 nights at Chicago Theater) and have been the main draw at ACL, Cocella and Lollapaloza not to mention festivals all over Europe.

I must not be a music fan then. By the way, who the hell is widespread panic, people keep talking about em. You must not have gotten my point kirk.

I love people who say things to the effect of "if you don't know so and so, you aren't a music fan". In my opinion, it's the people who say these kinds of things that aren't really music fans; they're only fans of themselves.

The fact is that even when you think you know everything, there are still a million more bands out there that you've never heard of, so please try to keep an open mind and not bash people who aren't aware of your favorite bands. Like a bully getting his butt kicked, there's always someone else out there who could do the same to you.

I like the Arcade fire because Trey says they are cool. I've never heard their music though. But they up there in my Top 3 favorite bands, along with My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy.

You jam band people are a lot harsher than the stereotypical grinning hippy I see on the television leads me to believe. And now a quote from a real person that follows your music, "I'm still letting music entertain me, I haven't gotten to the point where I care about letting music challenge me."

So...did anything special go down on the 6th? Or was it just the fact that they had an outdoor gig?

I thought they were going to burn down my local video arcade so I called the authorities. We waited around the arcade at the bowling alley for about 6 hours but the band never showed. Thanks for wasting my time guys!!!

Kirkbrew - How could I miss your point when you say it as clear as a bell? "If you are halfway into music, you would know Arcade Fire"? People who have never heard of any of the "million(s) of other great bands" you listed are simply dismissed as not being music fans? I'm sorry, but this sounds a little egocentric to me. Your definition is dated...

What is a music fan? What about the generations upon generations of great music that you and I have never heard? My grandmother listened to records every day, but she's not a music fan by your definition above and THAT'S my point. A music fan is one who loves music...not just one who loves THEIR OWN music.

Since you're not "bothered to clarify", please do because I don't want to misinterpret your point. All I can do is take your writing as literally as possible; your words are all that we have to go on...

aren't we all in the same boat? we listen to music to be entertained and challenged in some way, no matter what that music may be. although i despise country, i still respect it. although i may not have "heard of" numerous (billions) of bands that are out there, i am still a music fan. do any of us really know all bands that have originated in other countries? or even the cities we live in? my *guess* would be no. do we still all call ourselves music fans? yes, that is why we are here.
