Bullshit - it's not Blind Melon without Shannon Hoon. Shame.

didja hear - Nirvana is going on tour with Sublime opening.

I dunno, The band was always super tight and I'd love to see them play again. I just think that using the Blind Melon name was the wrong choice. I think a lot of people see BM as Shannon Hoon's band. Pearl Jam couldn't continue to call themselves that without Eddie.

Im divided on this. The music was always awesome, but Shannon is what drew me into the band. His voice was what made Blind Melon, and they should not be called that anymore.

The new songs sound great. Travis sounds great. Shannon was great but why let his death stop the rest of them from creating if they want. Go for it guys!

Not so sure about this reunion. The new tracks just don't sound that great to me. New vocalist falls far short in my opinion.

I don't think anyone is saying they shouldn't make music, they just shouldn't use the Blind Melon name. No Nirvana after Kurt, no Sublime after Bradley. No GRATEFUL Dead after Jerry. When someone is the heart of the music, and is associated solely with that band, once they're gone, the name should be retired.

I think it's great they are going back out - they made an album, and what I've heard from it is really great. These guys are getting a bad rap.other bands have done this and people have been ok with it. I think it will stand up on its own. Why is it ok for pink floyd or ac/dc or alice in chains but not blind melon? they waited 12 years!

I think this is mistake... Blind Melon was Shannon Hoon's band... the band was identifiable with his voice and only his voice... roger, chris, brad, and glen are good in their own right but shannon made the band what it was... I am fine with them getting back together but they should not continue under the name blind melon (maybe fresh melon?).. i think it's acceptable for them to play bm songs live but just seeing the name blind melon reforming only makes me think of what could have been and wish shannon was still alive and writing music

maybe they shouldnt call it blind melon ( as many have said ),

howwever, who all contributed in writing the songs,

if they planned on playing their old tunes as well and going the same direction,

then they are blind melon,

not that its up to the public anyway, these musicians are not morons and im sure they weighed the variables here, i say good luck to a band i thought i knew too late, they r coming to my hometown soon, and as far as out of respect to shannoon hoon, if he wasnt the main songwriter, then he was just a great frontman and a junky who threw it all away, its too bad our lives lead down these paths, but he let the band and his fans down along with his family,

just like every other O D ed junky, that does not take away rights from his band, or give his legacy any other rights, my opinion

Using the name is definitely a mistake because for the hard core fan it will never be Melon w/o Shannon. To the passer by if doesn't sound like the "Bee Song" they'll keep on moving just like they did when Melon put out an amazing 2nd album and most didn;t buy it.

The remaining members have tried to put out music , some of it not that bad, but to no success. Like any great but short lived bands there is always the pressure to find someone to "try and fill the shoes" of the departed lead singer and major songwriter of the band. How does it usually end up, BAD unfortunately.

Looks like from the venues they are playing that they are not expecting huge crowds.

Not a fan of the new songs and I probably won't hit the shows but bext of luck to the band.

Treetophigh, are you standing on a moral high ground? If you are a completely sober person than mazel tov. But if you aren't don't go calling someone you never met a junkie. Did he have issues, yes, was he delaing with them, sometimes, did the birth of Nico wake him up, yes. But on the night he dies he was doing some lines and took a few bng hits to sleep and his body gave up. I think that could happen to most of us on this site.

sublime turned into long beach dub allstars (now long beach shortbus) and have been moderately successful, as have others. if the band's completely different you should change the name. ac/dc kept the name because their sound was still similiar. with a singer like shannon (or layne staley or brad nowell), who has such a unique voice you need to change the name because it isn't the same. velvet revolver is gn'r with a new singer so they got a new name. audioslave is ratm with a new singer so they got a new name.

No Shannon, no Melon. Hopefully his girlfriend and daughter will get some jack out of it.

Ever hear of Bob and Tom (syndicated morning show out of Indy)? They did an "I Believe" with Bill Clinton once (or a guy playing Billy). One of the lines was "I believe that Blind Melon will never recover from the death of Shannon Hoon". Pretty funny in context.

treetophigh --> have you ever faced an addiction yourself?? If you have and then became sober, than you have my greatest respect. Im not saying you have a chip on your shoulder cause you beat it, and Im not condoning his IV cocain and heroin use. But I myself facing the same addictions knows how hard it is to beat. More than 50% of addicts never stay sober.<---- A figure that is roughly thrown out there. But dont trash the man cause of what he did, being in his same shoes I know that he probaly trash talked himself every minute of every day, he still knew how to bring goosebumps t o my skin when he sang. In my mind Shannon Hoon will always be a legend that I can relate to. Sorry for the rambling.

mr krinkle, boknows, i know i came off harsh, hard drug use like cocaine, heroine, and meth, really get me riled up , ive been an avid partier and drug user since i was 15 years old, the older i got the more drugs i used, after seeing coke bring friends and aquantances down to never coming back, and seeing heroine and meth bring family and friends down to the same spot, it has left a sour taste in my mouth, my main struggle has been alcoholism and although it isnt a heroin addiction, any addict knows addiction is addiction, ive seen a lot of drinks and drugs be able to be used recreationally, some people cant but its possible, ive had a hard time ever seeing anyone use meth, heroine, or coke, and not fall flat on their face and be dragged on coarse, concrete, or at least come close and miss by the skinn of their teeth. i take it out on the junky in words, but i know its the world to blame , cause pain and self loathing is the only thing that puts someone in the position to want to risk death and loss of self that accompanies certain drugs, and then family friends and the world lose a soul that gave up, its just like suicide, a copout, and it pisses me off, and saddens me, to each his own , and i feel pain for them more than i am pissed , but i guess if i badmouth the inevitably terrible, maybe someone else wont get duped into the shortterm glamor of it, long post i know but even though i come off as an asshole, i mean well, so stay well

i guess im just tryin to say that it sux that the want to party and get high, have fun, sometimes kills u and not only takes away from the users experience, but fucks up anyone who cares for that individual, blame and reasons aside, it just plain sux, and how weird is it that the experience leading up to that bitter conclusion so often creates such great artistic expression. most of these folks, janis, jimi, morrison, jerry, staley , hoon, i could go on and on, would not have produced near the quality of material without the struggle of their addictions that would become their fall. but.... theres only one way , and it will happen sooner than later, better than worse, so sorry if i offended anyone, i totally see how i couldve done that

Its all good treetophigh. I didn't mean to start a tangent on drug use/sobriety. I don't think I would have taken offense to your original comment if the birth of my kids didn't wake my ass up too.

Awesome tangent! Some really coherent stuff here. I happened to be in New Orleans the weekend Hoon died and saw the tour bus parked on Napoleon and St. Charles. I heard they had a gig there at Tipitina's but did not go then the next day I heard he died right there in that tour bus. Trippy. As a recovering addict and music lover, I would like to point out that there are certain groups that make space/opportunity for clean and sober fans to congregate, an idea originally started on Dead tour known as Wharf Rats. Wharf Rats continues to operate with Dark Star Orchestra and I think Ratdog and Phil/friends. Other bands have groups with other names: Phish had the Phellowship, moe has the Happy Hour Heroes, etc... My point is if someone is still struggling with addiction, a show can be a dangerous place all alone. I have seen more shows clean than sober now and I really like to go with other "safe" people when possible. If you know someone who is struggling, go to a show and stay clean with them or let them know that you support them. "Everything looks different from here."

HEY!!!! suggestion 4 YOU!!!

get yer own band, name it, then die, then leave suggestions for your surviving bandmates' new band name, from beyond the grave. in that order!!

opinions, as they say..., are like feet. most everyone has 2 of them and I can't use either one of them.

Blind Melon was and still is the shit! Def something to jam to...I think its disrespectful to Shannon to have the band name remain the same. One of the things that made Blind Melon so wonderful was the passion, soul and spirit that Shannon had for Blind one else can successfully replace him. Not only is it showing disrespect towards Shannon, BUT to Travis as well. Those are some giant shoes to fill, and quite frankly many people aren't even going to give him a chance due to the simple fact...that this band is NOT Blind Melon and no matter how good he may be...he is NOT Shannon Hoon.

Overrated. The power of self inflicted martyrdom lives. Did this band really have any impact? A couple of noisy songs and the bumble bee video.

Gimme a break.
