Dumpstaphunk Tour

Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk has been a much applauded act at festivals and venues across the country for the last several years. The band would make short trips out of New Orleans and return quickly back home to their respective gigs performing with other acts. Recently, however, the band has decided to devote all efforts towards Dumpstaphunk as full-time occupation. The band will begin their first national tour on August 25 in Chicago at Beat Kitchen and stay on the road through the end of September. See below for a complete list of tour dates.

Formed in 2003, Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk was initially put together by keyboardist Ivan Neville on a whim in order to perform a solo gig at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. Ivan called in cousin Ian Neville (guitar), the double-bass bottom of both Nick Daniels and Tony Hall, and drummer Raymond Webber to round out the show. Named after a song Ivan had recently written, Dumpstaphunk's informal performance became that of immediate legend. The project has since grown from chance side-project into what is now widely considered to be New Orleans' most popular musical export. The band was recently voted 2007's "Best Funk Band" by both Offbeat Magazine and Gambit Weekly, and performs at some of the nation's largest music festivals such as Bonnaroo, Voodoo Fest, 10,000 Lakes, and High Sierra.

No love for GA yet. Weak sauce. These dudes are pretty good. Anyone who rocks two bass guitarists is fine by me.

I enjoyed the half set I got to see this summer.
two bassists is pretty cool to pull off, but they didn't play with both basses for every tune, a guitar was exchanged for bass during those times. at any rate, if you like funky music, similiar to galactic or the funky meters, you will enjoy this band!!!

Serious funk throwdown. That Vaudeville show was incredible. Maybe the best show at HSMF this year.

These guys are tons of fun. Anyone happen to see them at Bonnaroo 2006. I did and there was a big dumpster on wheels parked by the stage with a giant MR. T on the front. I got in and danced with Venkman from Ghost Busters. It was maybe 3 or 4 am and the band was kickin'... you could hardly stand up because the dumpster was rocking so much. Nobody believed me about this dumpster the next day but I know it was there.

Beat Kitchen is comparable in size to Schuba's, but not quite as nice. I believe the two are owned by the same people.

I guess I've seen Dphunk about five times. Each show has been funky as can be. Two of the best shows I've ever seen (by any band) have been Dumpstaphunk closing out Jazzfest at Tipitina's. They play forever and there are so many special guests.. Art Neville, George Porter Jr., Leo Nocentelli, Big Sam Williams, Russell Batiste Jr., Eric Krasno, Charlie Hunter, Trombone Shorty and others. As long as they close out Jazzfest at Tip's, I'll be there.
