Steve Kimock
As many of you know, RatDog's sterling lead guitarist, Mark Karan, is experiencing a health problem. Said Chief Dog Bob Weir, "The docs want to have a close look at our brother Mark over the next few weeks, and we're gonna have to go with that. Our old friend Steve Kimock has graciously offered to cover for him for this tour, and so we're thinking we should go with this. We'll be in touch with Mark daily, and if his docs cut him loose, we'll bring him out. The show must go on, I think, in everyone's best interest. Here's to Healing..."

Steve chipped in. "First, I'd like to wish Mark a speedy recovery, and secondly, I'd like to thank Bob Weir & RatDog for this opportunity to serve our music, family, friends and community during Mark's absence. Love is a service done. Gratefully, SK."

Finally, we checked in with Mark. "I really appreciate all the love and good vibes I've received since announcing my need to take a 'healing break.' I'll be very sorry to miss all these great summer shows this July, but I'll be back ASAP and I'm sure my ol' TOO-mate Senor Kimock will do his best to add something special to this run. Keep me in your prayers, and meantime... Hey, hey come right away, come and join the party everyday."

Hmm, good thinking. See you down the road, Milwaukee first. RatDog tour dates available HERE.

A Message from MK

Mark Karan - RatDog by Weiand
Hey there groovy guys and groovy gals... It's yr ol' pal MK here with some less than stellar news. I will not be joining the boys [RatDog] on this July run thru the good ol' USofA...

My MDs have decided that a lump I've had on my neck for quite some time may in fact be a bigger problem than they originally thought. They can't say it's cancer but they can't say it isn't either (all tests are negative so far but they are still quite concerned).

Meanwhile, I have several wonderful healers that believe they can help me a lot with focused attention and hard work... So that's what I'll be doing for the next month. If all goes well... All good. Otherwise it's western style surgery and we'll have to wait and see where the dust settles.

So get on out to the shows. They'll be different and I'm sure they'll be fun. If at all possible I plan on joining the boyz for a rockin' good time on the August run.

Much love to alla you boneheads!!!

Mark Karan

steve kimock is easily the best guitarist of our genre and era and quite possibly of any genre and a contender with hendrix, garcia, clapton, buckethead...hehe, and all other greats

SKB with mathis and walters is so awesome you'll lose interest in all other aspects of life...check it out on the archive if you havnt yet

well Kimock and Walters both like to mix up their line-ups.
I asked Walters about it specifically and he said it keeps him from being bored. He also said he encouraged people that played with him to play with others too. For example. Chuck Prada ? plays with JJ grey and mofro. well one of the drum guys from robert walters 20th congress does.
SKB seems to do the same. altering bassists, guitar and keys, only keeping Rodney Holmes for drums.. anyway, it can be frustrating for fans, I LOVED 20th congress and I loved the SKB with bobby vega on bass, alas, they have moved on to new line ups. I must say Kimock with the Dog really makes me want to see it even more.

yeah, but still at least give all of us a chance to catch every major ensemble (im not talking about when he sits in w folks, just his main bands).

OH and btw, if you havnt, you GOTTA check out when he sat in w/ Zilla. I was never big sci fan but like zilla and kimock really adds a ton to thier sound.

the guy can play with anyone, though.

The best new SKB show that I found was from the Granada Theater Oct 1 , 2005. Def go get that; thers a buncha good ones but its just so high qual....and dont forget to pick up the shows he played with zilla (i think theyre acutally under steve kimock)

also, hnkscrpio, i see what your sayin about him being a lil before our time, but I was speaking pretty loosely...but thats all schemantics anyways so who cares, yadadamean?

I donno, praxis is pretty sick. I mean, really, how seroiously can you take a man with a damn fried chicken bucket on his head, not to mention hes a whizz at the num-chucks.

Missed Mark at last nite's opener in Atlanta. But Kimock filled in really well. FANTASTIC show, just a bit short (1:45). Got 3 plus back in March when they played Athens. But don't hear me complaining. The show rocked w/ lots of jams amid Dead faves: Straw, Cassidy, Half-Step, Lazy River, Sugaree, Sat Nite, Johnny B Goode. A goode time was had by all on a Sat nite! Trying to figure out how to catch Mark w/ the band in their Aug run w/ ABB....
