FEMI KUTI AMERICAN TOUR

AFRO-BEAT GENIUS FEMI KUTI TOURING THE US THIS SUMMER
Supporting The 2CD set Definitive Collection: Femi Kuti

Femi Kuti
Like father, like son. Femi Kuti is the undisputed inheritor of the genius of Nigerian Afro-beat superstar Fela Anikulapo-Kuti. His version of Afro-beat is the most exciting sound to emerge from Nigeria for years, borrowing the best elements from his father's powerfully polyrhythmic prototype of funk, jazz, and a sound that took James Brown's beat back to Africa.

There is enormous interest around Femi in 2007, in that it is 10 Years since his father's death and it is 200 years since the abolition of slavery, an issue that Femi is very outspoken on.

The Definitive Collection: Femi Kuti (Wrasse) draws on all three of Femi's albums including tracks from the rare first self titled album, with stunning tracks "Wonder Wonder" and "Survival." Also included is his duet with Rachid Taha singing the haunting "Ala Jalkoum" and a remake of one of Fela's favorites "Water No Get Enemy" which was on the Red Hot and Riot tribute album. This is coupled with a limited edition bonus CD of 10 of the finest mixes of all things Femi Kuti.

Femi Kuti tour dates available HERE.

"Femi is one of the most dynamic and invigorating figures around." The Times

"One of the true giants of African music." Q

I also reccomend a great documentery called "Fela Kuti: Music is the Weapon". Amazing stuff. Femi is talanted and puts on a blazing live show butreccomen Fela was where it's at. Highly reccomened. This dude was like the Bob Marley of Africa and openely dropped the glove tow the Nigerian military dictatorship and took them on. Bands like Antibalas, Delta Nove, ALO, etc. all are hugely influenced by him. Check out his album called "Expensive Shit".

crusty dumpling....i'm in complete agreement with your take on fela. i would also check out "zombie" and "he miss road", two other great fela releases.....plus he's got some good stuff out there w/ ginger baker on the drums. that being said, i'm way pumped up to see femi touring the u.s. i saw him about 8 years ago in new orleans and the guy played his ass off!

Fela has another son touring the U.S. this summer. Seun Kuti is doing his first U.S. tour and is touring WITH FELA'S BAND EGYPT 80. Don't miss the tour. Check out his tour dates @ http://www.myspace.com/seunkuti

On another note... Zombie is a great album and a very good military critique at a time like this. Definitely listen to that album.
