You guys know reggae on the river might not go down, right? The Mateel and People Productions and the landowners are sueing each other. And they're both claiming to be putting on separate festivals at the same time/place. Write an article on that. Check out reggaerising.com to be confused.

Yup, I bought a ticket for ROTR but now I may be out $170. The Mateel Community Center owns the name ROTR and fired People Productions because of discrepancies. So Dimmik Ranch, where the festival is held, opted out of its lease agreement and decided to put on a new fest - Reggae Rising. Reggae Rising doesn't have a permit for their event. In any case this battle is going to court and I would advise waiting and see what happens before buying any tickets to either event. For more info read this blog

You can also go back and track the history which lead to the demise of the Mateel/PP partnership by visiting any of the Cali reggae fests message boards. There's lengthy discussion on it on both reggaeontheriver.com and also on Sierra Nevada World Music Festival's site, snwmf.com. If you wanna go to a California reggae festival, I recommend hitting up SNWMF and just let this situation in Humboldt resolve itself this year first. There will be a reggae festival in Humboldt this August, but I wouldn't put my money towards either ROTR or RR in 2007 - which is sad, cause they both are offering great lineups this year.

There is a crucial reggae festival just north of California on August 10-12, and it is happening for sure. The 3rd annual Northwest World Reggae Festival has artists like Ky-Mani Marley, KRS-One, Abyssinians, and a whole lot more, near Eugene, OR. http://www.nwworldreggae.com/
