About The Discount Heroes
The Discount Heroes most recent adventure took them to Hollywood for a quick two show stint, as they were invited to perform as the special musical guest at the UCB Comedy Theatre by Co-Founder Matt Besser, while also playing to a packed house at The Cat Club on Sunset Strip. The DH had previously earned its stage stripes by playing just about every small to mid-sized venue in and around Phildelphia since 2007 with out of town gigs in New York and Delaware and a run through Virginia and North Carolina. They were also featured on Comcast OnDemand Local Spotlight.. The Discount Heroes have three recordings under their belt: an eight song acoustic demo, “The Discount Heroes”; “Who Are The Discount Heroes?”, a five song EP that first paired the band with a great production team at Sine Studios and their soon to be released EP, “Five Finger Discount”, the first under SEG (Sine Entertainment Group). Like Philadelphia, the city that they call home, the The Discount Heroes’ sound is an eclectic mix of styles which combine to form something greater than the sum of its parts. Likewise, there is beauty and elegance in the melodies and vocal harmonies that singer Frank Tartaglia and backing vocalist/rhythm guitarist Rob Ogus create. The electric intensity of Ron Bauman’s lead guitar playing channels the grit of Philadelphia’s streets. The skilled Angelo Tartaglio brings a youthful dose of excitement. Most recently, Joe Blakely (formerly of Soulamite) has been added to the rhythm section, providing a professionally rocking beat to the DH sound. The Discount Heroes don’t care about what other bands sound like. They play what sounds good to to them. Like fellow Philadelphians Dr. Dog and Hall and Oates, the Discount Heroes’ songs encompass many different styles and there is timelessness in their music. With the glut of one-off bands trying to capitalize on whatever sound or style is popular at the moment, this is a refreshing change for people who appreciate genuine music. Listen to the Discount Heroes and you will hear why the music these five guys from Philly make is so unique and so From It! And “From It!” Means Good!
