Get fired. Get divorced. Make a record. That wasn’t how Hamilton, Ontario-based singer-songwriter Deeps planned it, but that’s how he found the freedom to pursue music full-time, giving up the comforts of family and a living wage to get real. ”Some truth came out of hitting the bottom,” says Deeps. His first full-length solo record, In The Aftermath Of Last Night, came out March 23, 2019.
Deeps describes the album as ”alt-country soul” and it pays tribute to his Americana roots with a heavy addition of barroom rock, because ”I’m a kid originally from Mississauga,” he jokes. Like Springsteen, a strong hometown narrative runs through Deeps’ writing. Songs about rusting in Steeltown, rock ’n rolling to pay the bills, and small city romance, delivered with attitude-filled vocals, and punctuated with southern gospel guitar, searing organ, and upbeat drums.
Whether it’s an energetic festival show like Mariposa, or an intimate house concert for twenty, audiences can expect a passionate and deeply authentic storytelling experience.
”He’s a tough and gritty singer with a voice that cuts through the clutter with songs that say something, mean something and stick to the inside of your gut. Deeps? Yeah, the name fits the artist. Y’oughta check him out.” says Richard Flohil, Toronto-based promoter and publicist.
