About Chris Forsyth & the Solar Motel Band
Chris Forsyth is a lauded guitarist and composer whose work assimilates art-rock textures with vernacular American influences. Long active in underground circles, hes recently released a string of acclaimed records of widescreen guitar rock. 2013s Solar Motel (Paradise of Bachelors) was named one of the years best releases by New Yorker, Uncut, Aquarium Drunkard, and others, provoking ecstatic comparisons to visionary artists such as Television, the Grateful Dead, Popul Vuh, Neil Young & Crazy Horse, and Richard Thompson.
It was recorded with an ad hoc studio band, but upon Solar Motels release, Forsyth assembled a group of players to tour the record – longtime bassist Peter Kerlin (Peter Kerlin Octet), drummer Steven Urgo (ex-The War on Drugs), and guitarist Paul Sukeena (Spacin) – who took Forsyths vision to another level. The group, now called the Solar Motel Band, quickly developed a reputation as an incredible live act. Forsyths chemistry with the Solar Motel Band is evidenced on their Solar Live 10.15.13 LP (Electric Ragtime), recorded live in Philadelphia and released in spring 2014.
Intensity Ghost, the first studio album by Chris Forsyth & the Solar Motel Band largely forsakes the epic sprawl of Solar Motel in favor of a startlingly diverse and focused set of songs. It will be released October 28, 2014 on the No Quarter label.
