Pearl Jam Unveils Seven More Tour Debuts In Quebec City

Seattle rockers Pearl Jam crossed the border for their first show of the year in Canada last night, but didn’t leave their adventurous spirit in the states when it came to the evening’s setlist. Thursday’s nights Pearl Jam show at Centre Vidéotron in Quebec City featured a total of seven tour debuts including a cover of a Neil Young classic.

The band set the tone for the night from the start by opening with the tour’s first “Of The Girl.” Frontman Eddie Vedder counted off the song in French and spoke to the crowd en Francais a number of times. Pearl Jam’s main set in Quebec City featured 20 tunes. Four more tour debuts were performed within the main set: “You Are,” “Nothing As It Seems,” “I’m Open” and “MFC.”

Vedder opened the first of two lengthy encores by honoring Canada’s own Neil Young with a solo acoustic cover of “The Needle & The Damage Done,” which was last performed at a Pearl Jam show on June 25, 2014. The first encore also featured the tour debut of “Wash” and saw the band welcome a fan named Noah Keeley up on stage to strum guitar on “Sad.” Eddie mentioned he had seen Noah perform “Sad” on YouTube and let him jam on the song with them. Vedder then dedicated a cover of Cheap Trick’s “Surrender” to Noah’s mom and dad. The show came to a close with a six-song second encore that included classics “Daughter,” “Do The Evolution,” “Jeremy,” “Black” and “Alive” along with a cover of The Who’s “Baba O’Riley.”
