“Jesse Fischer plays with astounding energy...” —Downbeat “Lyrical, gorgeous blossoms of melody and sound.” —Washington City Paper Facebook event: YouTube promo video: Brooklyn-based pianist/composer Jesse Fischer and multi-instrumentalist and horn arranger Sylvester Onyejiaka (a/k/a Sly5thAve) join forces with special guest trumpeter Eddie Henderson to pay tribute to the record that defined jazz-funk fusion: Herbie Hancock's Head Hunters. Celebrating the 40th anniversary of the watershed album that married jazz to pop music with a funky, tribal flourish, the band will perform all four songs from Head Hunters as well as a few other Hancock favorites. This special one-time-only concert, dubbed VEIN MELTER, is scheduled for Monday, December 2, at 9:30pm, at ShapeShifter Lab in Brooklyn, N.Y., and will also feature drummer Jerome Jennings, bassist David Cutler, percussionist Keita Ogawa, saxophonist Irwin Hall, and trumpeter Jay Jennings. Joining them for certain key tunes will be special guest trumpeter Eddie Henderson, who was part of Hancock’s Mwandishi collective and subsequently released several of his own influential jazz-funk records.
