Show Info

Three different leaders in Cajun music – Dirk Powell, Foghorn Stringband, and Eric & Suzy Thompson – team up in this one-time only Cajun dance event with some honky tonk thrown in at no extra charge! The Foghorns and Thompsons have appeared here once before as Gros Brouillard (French Cajun for “big fog”), but thanks to the Berkeley Old Time Music Convention bringing the Foghorns and Powell to town, they will all join together for a night of instrumental and vocal musical chairs, traditional and new Cajun sounds. Instrumental wizard Dirk Powell (www.dirkpowell.org) hails from Eunice, Louisiana, and his credits and list of collaborators is long, including co-founding Balfa Toujours, currently touring with Joan Baez, working with T-Bone Burnett among others. Internationally acclaimed Foghorn Stringband is a young group from Portland, Oregon, with Caleb Klauder, Sammy Lind, Reeb Willms, Nadine Landry. Berkeley’s Eric and Suzy Thompson are local music treasures, leading such groups as California Cajun Orchestra, Aux Cajunals and Todalo Shakers. Dirk, Sammy and Suzy will switch hit on accordion and fiddles; Eric Thompson will play lead guitar; Reeb Willms will play rhythm guitar; Nadine Landry will play bass; and Caleb Klauder will play drums. Microphone-shattering vocals from Nadine, Reeb, Caleb, Sammy and Suzy. Killer rhythm section with Reeb, Caleb and Nadine. Blazing solos from Eric, Dirk, Sammy and Suzy. These musicians have played together before, but not all of them all at once. Unspeakable but completely danceable fun will be had!
