Named one of the "50 Best Albums of 2011" by Guitar World, the new self-titled album from The Wandas, out August 30, has been praised for its exceptional songwriting and forceful performances. Singer-songwriter Patrick Krief will open the show. USA Today raves "'Do or Die.' Ooh, I can't get tired of this one — and after the first chorus, I couldn't get tired of singing it, either. The Wandas may remind you a bit of early Wilco, although they hail from Boston." My Old Kentucky Blog goes on to say "The Wandas' breakthrough may be upon us. is both effortless and timeless, the kind of thing Tom Petty used to knock out at will, and a slice of music so perfect that you need not be surprised if you end up standing next to your parents the next time the Wandas swing through your town." Spending the last two years relentlessly touring America, the Wandas were able to enter the studio and successfully record their new album live with minimal overdubs, most of the songs completed in three takes or less. Writing intensely personal music is nothing new for Montreal's Patrick Krief, either as a solo artist or as the longtime guitarist for the Dears. Upon completing his recent release, Hundred Thousand Pieces, Krief had to step away from the project for nearly six months. The self-produced, self-mixed Hundred Thousand Pieces was his first concerted attempt to create music that was strongly evocative and inspired by his work scoring films. California born singer Marisa Duchowny (The Rabbit) and New York-native Neill MacCallum (The Hare) first started playing music together after Neill placed an ad on Craigslist looking for a female multi-instrumentalist. Marisa answered the call and they met a week later in Central Park, with guitars in-hand. They played their songs together and quickly discovered their voices blended beautifully to create rich and resounding harmonies. Now, a little over a year of playing together, they have found their niche in the music community and are ready to carve out their own place.
