Show Info

Hailing from the bohemian college town of Athens, Georgia, Futurebirds play laid-back country-rock with an atmospheric, psychedelic twist. The group began turning heads with the release of a self-titled EP, whose backwoods harmonies and pedal steel riffs helped earn a contract with Autumn Tone Records. With the label’s help, Futurebirds booked time at Chase Park Transduction — one of Athens’ most renowned studios, with a client list that includes R.E.M., Drive-By Truckers, and Jason Isbell — and recorded Hampton’s Lullaby. The debut album was released in August 2010, and the group issued a follow-up EP, Via Flamina, while touring in support of both releases. Oh Whitney The band has called several places home since its first incarnation at Duke University in 2008. They cut their teeth performing in and around NYC for a couple years, while also playing down the East Coast and into central Mexico, where they began working with highly acclaimed drummer Rick Shlosser (of Van Morrison, James Taylor, Etta James, among others). After recording their debut album “Oh Whitney” in Queretaro, Mexico, they relocated to Fort Worth, TX to begin touring behind the new album. In March 2011 the band went on a short hiatus until the group reformed and spent the majority of the last couple years playing and touring around Latin America, mostly Puerto Rico, Brazil, and Mexico. With an arsenal of new songs influenced by their travels abroad, Oh Whitney recently entered the studio to record their forthcoming album produced by Donald Fagen (of Steely Dan). The album is set to release by Spring 2013 and by then the peripatetic Oh Whitney will have settled down in their new home base of Austin, TX.
