The times they are a changin’. It’s November; Midterm Elections have swung the political pendulum, we turned back the clocks, it’s getting frosty outside and JamBase is exploring the world of video. That’s right folks, after an inspirational and hard working weekend at Vegoose we are ready to introduce the first of many video initiatives we’re calling Backstage at JamBase. Keeping the creative wheels turning, we also teamed up with our New Orleans friends at Dirty Coast to craft a fresh new t-shirt that we’re all wearing with pride! Now don’t worry, we’re not forgetting what got us here, we’re still packing JamBase full of tour dates, news and interviews to help save the world, or at least help everyone Go See Live Music! Bundle up, spend some time with friends and family, enjoy the changes afoot and we’ll see ya here next month, same time, same place.

CITIZEN COPE

If you’ve heard any of the work that Cope has created over the past few years, you already know how quickly he can paint a masterpiece with the lightest of brushstrokes. How he captures a character in just a few words. Remember George from his self titled album, the two-bit hustler from Baltimore in “200,000 (In Counterfeit $50 Bills)?” who “spends all his dough on the horses at the Pimlico.” The amputees in Sierra Leone’s sadly named capital of Freetown in “Bullet and a Target”? The lost soul worshiping his true love in the form of a forty foot tall woman in a mural in “Pablo Picasso?” The woman who vanishes on the streets of D.C. in “Southern Avenue,” where ‘you don’t have to go overseas’ to find war, because war finds you.

OUR NEW FAVORITE BAND

ROTARY DOWNS

It’s way more Stephen Malkmus and Pavement than it is Brass Band, but Rotary Downs hails from New Orleans. This is what NOLA sounds like after dark, in the dirty alleys and behind the clubs. Emerging from the aftermath of Katrina with a lineup change and their fourth album, Chained to the Chariot, this searing indie-pop band of misfits is ready for mass consumption. All the pieces are aligned: the vocals and lyrics keep us guessing, the rhythm section (featuring one of JamBase’s favorite photographers Zack Smith on drums) is tight and expansive, the guitar is space-bound and the addition of keys and horns make Rotary Downs an easy pick for our Favorite New Band. Do yourself a favor and check it out on Rhapsody or the band's website .

"WE LIKE THESE GUYS"

NOLA'S DIRTYCOAST & JAMBASE TEAM UP
We sure do like our friends at Dirty Coast down in New Orleans. We are thrilled that we got to collaborate with them on a sweet new t-shirt that celebrates the glory of live music - something that the good people of NOLA and JamBase lovers have very much in common.
