Catawba Festival 2012

A three-day music festival at the Virginia Tech Catawba Sustainability Center Aug. 31 through Sept. 2 will feature Acoustic Syndicate, Papadosio, Larry Keel, Corey Harris, Sol Roots, and other bands.

Brief talks on sustainability and other issues related to farming and the environment will take place throughout the weekend.

Catawba Farm Fest happens this weekend! The lineup includes an incredible array of national, regional, and local Virginia musical groups. Just a few acts featured are:

Acoustic Syndicate (rock/folk/bluegrass band from North Carolina with tight vocal harmonies, blazing guitar picking, complex polyrhythmic banjo playing, backed by a rock-steady rhythm section),

Papadosio (combines eclectic musical traditions with modern electronica to stir the heart and fuel the mind)

Larry Keel (one of the most powerful, innovative and all-out exhilarating Acoustic Americana flatpicker performing today),

Corey Harris Rasta Blues Experience (blues guitarist bringing his unique voice to the reggae genre),

Sol & Funk Root (Home Grown Music Network band of world traveled guitarist Sol),

and also Shane Pruitt Band, Mercy Creek, The Rob Hornfeck Enterprise, The Boatmen, Urth, Badunkafunk, Kat Mills, Jason Byrd, All Mighty Senators, Hans Chew Band, Wayne Henderson, No BS Brass Band, The Kind, Downbeat Project, Kings of Belmont, and many many more!

Catawba Farm Festival knows that sustainability is more than just a buzz word and understands the importance of being socially responsible, protecting the environment for future generations, and being active members of the community.

Catawba Farm Festival is excited to host a festival experience that will provide recycling and compost bins, as well as vendors that participate in reducing the carbon footprint through the use of earth friendly products and unique, locally sourced crafts.

Camping will be available on the grounds of the Catawba Sustainability Center, which is situated on 377 acres in the Catawba Valley approximately 20 minutes by car from Roanoke VA. The festival will also feature vendors offering local foods.

Catawba Fest is a local cooperative booking partnership focused on showcasing and preserving the rich music heritage of Southwestern Virginia. The festival promotes grassroots gathering built on the platform of arts, food, and family entertainment to stimulate the regional economy. Catawba Festival plans to directly benefit local artisans, musicians, farmers, as well as other businesses.
