Of course Cabinet (who is headlining on Friday) and Garcia Grass (featuring Mike Miz!) are a couple of my favorite bands that I see every chance I get and talk about here all the time. But the rest of this lineup is great too. I've personally caught Colebrook Road, Coal Town Rounders, The Hickory Project, and Rumpke Mountain Boys live before and can vouch for all of them! And I hear good things about Hot Day at the Zoo who is headlining on Saturday!

Remember, presale tix are available only until Monday 5/7! So far the weather forecast is looking pretty damn good! :)

As for myself, I will at least be there Friday, though Saturday still remains to be seen. On Friday I'll be working merch for Cabinet (and Garcia Grass, if they have any merch), if anybody wants to stop by and say high! :)

So, who's gonna be there??

Just a reminder that Monday is the last day for $40 presale tix. After that they go up to $55 (still not bad). And the extended weather forecast is still looking good!

And yeah, drumfreak, I caught the Rumpke Mountain Boys at Blondie's in Carlisle a couple months ago (after reading nothing but good things about them here), and they were great, lots of fun. When the bar wouldn't let them play another song, they took their instruments and walked out the front door (followed by most the patrons) and played us some acoustic bluegrass right there on the sidewalk in Carlisle at 2am! :)

Just some more details to share. Mike Orr, who's teaching the cigar box guitar workshop, posted the following on Spring Pickin's facebook event page today:

"I will be doing a cigar box guitar workshop on Saturday starting at noon. I will provide all tools and materials needed. There will 4 instruments to choose from and build. Prices will range from $20-$70 and can be completed in about 2 hours."

$40 presale tix still available through today yet, at this link, or at the ticket outlets listed in the original post...

If you want to check out any of the bands performing, there are links to all of them here... it's a great lineup...

where's Garcia Grass from they sound like I'd like their music just from the name?

Glad you asked, Johnny! Garcia Grass is from the Scranton PA area and typically consists of:

Mike Mizwinski on Guitar & Vocals (MiZ, Jam Stampede, Trippin On Nothing)

Kris Kehr on Mandolin & Vocals (Stone Poets, The Recipe)

Pappy Biondo on Banjo & Vocals (Cabinet)

Dylan Skursky on Bass (Cabinet, Trippin On Nothing)

Anthony Hannigan on Fiddle (Hickory Project)

There are sometimes substitutions or additions to the lineup, as this is a side project for all these guys and they can't always all be available for every gig. This started a little over 2 years ago as a one-off show to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Old And In The Way album, as a tribute to Jerry's bluegrass roots as well as other bluegrass music in that vein. It was such a huge success, by popular demand they just had to keep doing it whenever they can.

Johnny, I see you're from Wisconsin... I'm guessing there's not much chance of Garcia Grass getting out your way, however there are lots of shows up on Archive.org you can listen to. And to the people who ARE in this area, I highly recommend catching a show! :)

(As well as Jam Stampede, which is Mike Miz, a few of the Zen Tricksters, etc, covering The Dead... JamBase recently published a great show review... http://www.jambase.com/Articles/91639/The-Jam-Stampede-with-John-Kadlecik-NYC-Review ... and here's a thread with links to good audio and video recordings of that show... http://www.jambase.com/Forums/Thread.aspx?group=0&topic=12&thread=69180 ... not that JS is part of this fest, but still one to keep an eye out for!)

Phinnegan, this thread was from last year, but obviously you meant you filmed this year's. It was a couple weeks earlier this year. Unfortunately I couldn't make it this time, but I know a bunch of people who went and everybody said it was a great time, with beautiful weather, etc. It's a pretty sweet, laid back venue, huh?

It's a shame Cabinet couldn't play Spring Pickin this year... I think it was because of the proximity (both date & distance) to thier first annual Old Farmers Ball fest, which took place at Montage Mountain this past Saturday the 11th (a huge success, by the way). But at least you still got a couple of the Cabinet boys in Garcia Grass and Launch Pad. Did they sit in at all with any of the other bands?
