I've got this vision of an organic message board structure. Organic b/c the users "grow" the boards themselves. So if Joe blow in WI wants to meet other musicians there, he can make a board to do so.
1. Create static work spaces based on regions of the country or states where boards can be created.
2. Allow members to create public message boards (pmb).
a. group owners admin the pmb.
b. Ownership can be passed from one member to another if they both agree.
c. Mods can be promoted from normal pmb members if they agree to assist.
3. PMBs are fully functional message boards
a. invite, delete, ban members, or make private, invite only.
b. Create, delete, lock, modify, and quote messages
c. Search PMBs based on keywords.
d. Search pool of PMBs by keywords. Search results should be displayed with the number of members, date and time of last post, and brief description of the PMB.
4. Frequent user incentives
a. post count under photo
b. number of shows in members "I’m going" calendar displayed under photo
c. Rank - based on post and or "I’m going" count
d. title - Jambase writers, photographers, employees, helpers, all get titles. This will reward helpers and create a base of people who want the opportunity to help. Provide the option for the member to disable the title if they like, from their "my Jambase".
e. Karma points - this can be good or bad. Basically it’s like the thumbs up down thing but it keeps track of how many thumbs up or down you are awarded by your peers. so cool people who have great attitudes may get a large number of thumbs up over time, but negative, less desirable members will have a big fat negative thumbs up number. The problem is that there are lots of rules that have to be designed to make this work. Also, even with all the rules, people can still be targeted for revenge or just random acts of dickheadyness.
