alright I may have to call shenanagins. I've been to the 9:30 club and it is not the venue this guy (possibly you) is making it out to be. One of my dogs was chewing on a used condom a block away, where we slept in our van, right outside the projects.

Now I don't doubt this show was killer and lotus is the shit. Last time I saw Mr. Lif was on Galactic tour I thought he was an asshole and that he got fat and sold out but whatever. I'm sure the lotus energy overcame all.

However the audio download link was some bunk ass pay shit with no free listen at all. If I could listen to it I would be right now, expounding on the merits and general kick-ass-ness of lotus, however I can not and therefore will not.

So what does your dog chewing on a condom have to do with how legendary the 930 club is and what happened inside there the night of Lotus? I'm pretty sure you'll find used condoms on the streets of whatever city your from as well.

I never met Mr Lif so I have no idea that he is an asshole, I doubt you met him either, and I never said he was a nice guy.

if you want a free show go to etree or archives. I on the other hand would like to support the band and the club and provide fans with a quality soundboard product

Dude i've been to hundreds of venues in every state in the continental US. 9:30 is the dirtiest, sketchiest and all around filithiest one I've been to. That's including E Factory in philly. I'm not saying that the venue surroundings have any effect on the music played or the energy brought, I'm only pointing out the fact that it's a run down venue in a shitty part of a nasty city in order to provide a counterpoint to the high praise the article heaped upon it.

No i've never met Mr. Lif, however I saw him twice in 2001 and 2002 and then again in 2008. At his early shows he was on point, intelligent and thanked the crowd at the end of the show. At the 2008 show he came out and said "Yeah, whats up white people, we got Bootsy Collins coming up, what ya'll know about Bootsy COllins... Fuck that, ya'll don't know shit about Bootsy Collins!" and then proceeded to stand in the middle of the stage and unemotionally deliver line after line till he was done and then hustled off the stage. I've been a hip hop fan since I was 12 and heard Warren G doing regulator (in 1994) I know a little bit about a little bit. That's why I called him an asshole.

I support bands by going to their shows, buying their cd's at shows, and telling people positive things about them. Not by giving my money to a third party download sites.

the only thing shitty about the 930 club is their staff... its really not in that bad of a neighborhood at all

ha, are you kidding me? 930 club is in an extremely shitty part of town. wander a couple streets from there and then get back to me.

the nazi-ness of their staff can't be understated. i've been kicked out of literally half of the shows i've been to there for puffing. i realize it was my fault for doing it, for sure. but that's not the norm across the country in similar venues. it's not like i was being obnoxious about it.

i've seen some great shows there, but i'll never go back, it's not worth it. 930 club = the geigh

one time when i was there i specifically didn't bring anything with me because i knew how hardcore they were and i was just drinkin and dancing. at one point during the show a cutie beside me who wasn't even with us passed me a spoon and i hit one time and gave it back, and that was it. immediately i get a light shined on my head from above and 2 big ass guys roll up on my ass and escort me out. i argue like fuck, telling them i didn't do anything and i didn't have anything on me and they could search me if they wanted. they threatened to call the cops and have every single one of my friends searched if i didn't comply. i wasn't sure what my buddies' situations were, so i didn't wanna chance fucking them over and i left. they put big ass black X's down my entire forearms and kicked me the fuck out.

did i deserve it? maybe.

was that shit called for? no.

are most other clubs in the country like that? ha, certainly not.

Yea 930 club is whack. My friend got a ticket and couldn't make it to this show so I wanted to pick it up at will call and give it to another friend. They asked for a copy of my friends driver's license and a copy of the credit card used to make the purchase. I had the confirmation email, credit card info, and even had him on the phone trying to talk to the staff. Never in my life had I have ANY venue in the country ask for that or be this difficult. Yea my friend who couldn't make it because of work who lives in NY city is going to leave work find a copy machine, copy all of this shit, obtain a fax number, and fax it over to 930 club. Fuck that. So the ticket just sat there unused for a sold out show. Yea good job 930 lets make it as difficult as humanely possible for the customer of your venue to get a ticket that they already purchased. I thought you are supposed to do everything in your power to accommodate the customer, not the opposite.

And caveman, my friend got kicked out the first night too and wasn't even smoking. It was some dude next to him and he got escorted out.

yep, it does have great sound. love getting sbds from shows there (btw these lotus shows were sick as shit). saw my favorite umphey's show ever there a few years back. but i'll never go back. you're right, it's not worth the trouble.

i'm pretty sure they kick people out purposefully at a very high rate so they can pack more people in

The venues is pretty shitty but the shows I,ve seen there were off the charts. Anyone remember Lotus 2/13/10? Aside for their Festival shows, this show was by far one of the best shows i've seen by them.

That was one of the better shows ive seen from lotus for sure. I haven't seen many good festival sets from them though. All good 09 comes to mind as a good one. Starscape 09 too but thats not really a festival I guess. And of course summerdance is always great.

Their festie sets usually suck imo, they always play the same few songs and their jams are rushed and clearly catered to gain new fans rather than explore any new territory
