The Time Machine Tour hits Shoreline and there's still nothing quite like this band.

Awesome review...I wish I could see Rush on this tour, saw them a couple years ago and they blew me away. The new Rush Documentary is amazing and if you are or not a Rush fan, you'll enjoy it. I love how this band has changed throughout the years and still keeps going...even their last album was pretty badass. These guys are real and true musicians and they are one of rare acts that I hope to keep going and going...Long Live Rush!!!!

Yep, we were there on the Shorelawn last night... this reviewer hits nail on the head. Fantastic show!! And I thought the 2 new tunes were the best of the night... and that's on top of an incredible playing of Moving Pictures.

Rush isn't my favorite music to listen to these days, but I think I respect them more than anybody.

I've seen Rush consistently throughout the years since the mid-80s when I first fell in love with their music! Great article ... it's nice to see JamBase reaching outside the box (not that they haven't before) ... and for a serious, die-hard Rush fan, this was perfect, as I am even more psyched to see them in Las Vegas this Saturday!!!

I checked into them playing in Allentown, PA. Are the tickets generally going for 70 bucks a pop? Rush is godly, yes, but 70 bucks for a ticket? Was shoreline the same price?

I love seeing this article on Jambase! My iPod mostly contains artists that you could say are of the "jamband" variety, whatever that means these days- Phish, SCI, moe., Leftover Salmon, Keller, Umphrey's, Flecktones, Acoustic Syndicate, etc. Other than that, my iPod just contains Rush. They have been my favorite band for the last 22 years.

Exit...Stage Left was the first album I ever owned, back in '82.

I'm 38 years old, and it's weird to think that I have never lived in a world where there wasn't Rush (I know their first album came out when I was 2, but like the article says, they've been together for 42 years). I'm not sure what it's going to be like when they're not around anymore.

And I'm not just one of those fans nostalgic for the music of their youth, who go to the shows, hit the snack bar or the beer tent during the new songs, and then leave after the guys play "Tom Sawyer." In fact, the two Rush albums I listen to most are Vapor Trails and Snakes & Arrows, and I can't wait to see them play "Caravan" and "BU2B" live- these new songs are great! I can honestly say that they are the only band that has never put out an album I didn't like all the way through.

They are not hitting Phoenix, AZ on this leg of the tour, so my wife and I are driving up to Vegas this weekend to catch the show- can't wait! I heard that they will come through AZ next year, so I'll be there when they do.

I couldn't make it to any of the SCI or Phish shows this summer (I really wish I could have), but at least there's always Rush.

now this is a review. nice job, as always, dennis. although, it's a shame that you're the only one producing work that's worth a damn around jambase (not including the many excellent photographers.........photo viewer still sucks).

I don't have much to add - I love Rush. I'm looking forward to watching the documentary, but they should make one that focuses on the fans that come to the shows these days. It's so funny seeing all of these older geeks bringing their sons out for an awesome first show. One of the greatest acts for people-watching pre show and set break. Just expect timeless rock at a Rush show not beautiful ladies. Neil Peart's drum solo (O Baterista I think) goes from tribal rhythm to big band and might be the most amazing drum spectacle ever.

@ hodendepheesh - We paid $30 for lawn tix at Shoreline.

These guys know how to put on a show!! Wicked musicianship and a wicked sense of humor. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll be astounded. So many families all wearing Rush shirts LOL. I took 5 separate family portraits for them just as I was walking around. The positive vibes are such that you remember from Dead shows... or find at a Flaming Lips show. LONG LIVE RUSH!!!!!!

excellent review and comments. what goes overlooked is how big and complex their sound is for only a trio. rush's multitasking on stage and progressive stance on musicianship and nuance can be directly traced to more jam oriented bands of today like lotus or umphrey's. as far as i'm concerned these guys are the gold standard.
