I dont know why you guys are saying, "well, the times are different now" as a way of justification. Times were bad in the early 80s and in the early 70s..but you didnt hear the Dead get politically charged. I dont want to get into a political argument here, because everyone has different political opinions. I think that Phil and Bobby are entitled to their opinion, I just dont like the Grateful Dead moniker attached to their recent political charge. Fydo1974, I wouldnt mind republicans coming back to power, because it would bring balance. It is very dangerous for a single party to run the whole show, liberal or conservative

You are correct that Obama did not put us in this mess. It was conservative and liberal bureucrats, namely fannie mae and freddie mack who put us in this mess. However, I believe that with Obama's spending (bail outs, a bullshit stimulis) the economy is getting worse (12 trillion $ debt, unemployment near 10%). I am wide awake on the issue, I believe in him about as much as I belive in Bush, which is not much at all. I think it is equally as short sited for people to blindly take everything this guy says to heart. The guy is a typical full of shit politician, just like everybody else in politics today.

First of all it's a free country, and they can support whoever they want, but I agree that endorsing political whores (which 99% of all politicians are) is much different than supporting a cause. It reaks of Bob Weir political B.S. and hypocrisy. Not saying I'll boycott them or anything like that, but it just continues to tarnish their legacy which has become a hobby for all of them, especially Weir.

I learned all i need to know about sen. boxer when she scolded a high-ranking military official for politely & correctly adressing her as "maam," & demanded he adress her as "senator" because she worked very hard to earn the title. (I guarantee the official worked ALOT harder to earn his title, but I digress...) Seriously, I disapprove of my favorite musicians supporting POLITICIANS in this manner. If you wanna support a candidate, send em' a few bucks for the campaign. Just don't ask me to do the same, thank you...

I don’t know why you keep calling "W" my boy, I’ve stated before I was not a fan of his. Republicans spent allot of money sure, but it took Bush 8 years to accumulate several hundred billion dollars of debt. Whereas it took Obama only 2 years to spend well over a trillion dollars. Bush started two ridiculous wars, but Obama is continuing them (after he promised to stop both wars). The rich pay nearly 70-80% of the taxes in this country, and the majority of those people are business owners. If you cut taxes for rich people, then they will have more disposable income. Which means they will spend more money on leisurely items, invest in securities, stocks, and bonds, or be more willing to invest more money into their businesses for growth and expansion. All of which will help the economy and create job growth. That is the way I see it. You can call me an idiot or whatever you want, because quite frankly I don’t give a shit about your opinion. The fact is you are not going to change my opinion on the matter the same way I am not going to change your mind. Agree to disagree.
BTW I hate talking about politics on a forum such as this, because it goes nowhere and just pisses everyone off. The whole reason for me to even post on this topic was due to the surviving members of one of my favorite bands went completely against their philosophy of 40 years to back political candidates. I guess Bob and Phil are throwing stones

Enough of the recycled political crap discussions. Back in the day the power of the people was what brought about the "change" and the people are who Jerry Garcia supported and played for. Weir and Lesh are sleeping with the enemy and have turned their back on everything they stood for. And I honestly believe that the only thing they believe in is the $$$ they get paid to play for these clowns. I've boycotted them.

Quityerbitchin!
As roswellznutsack said (interesting name, by the way) people can change their minds. So just because someone was anti-politics 40 years ago, that means they are not allowed to back a canidate who they like? Bologna! Its not like Bobby is making you vote for her if you want to go to a show. I think these guys have earned the right to do what they want and follow their gut. And anyone who says "Jerry would never have done this" is full of it. Who knows what Jerry would be like in 2010?
If this is enough for people to "boycott" Bobby and Phil, so be it. More dancing room for me!

Do they realize what a turn off it is to have their brand associated with such a thing? I mean, seriously, how many times are we gonna have to read about them supporting this and that and expect all the uninformed hippie drones to support it because they do? Silly hippies...

Well a perfect example why not to see Lesh and Weir Can't believe they would even consider backing Boxer. Well wonder why they don't invite the The other freak pelosi She'll be out next. This party is a total failure, do us all a favor and just resign before more damage is done to this country. Lesh and Weir should really reconsider backing or getting involved with any of these people I would have to say I don't back boxer and have heard the last of weir and lesh it is sad.
